He has penciled his name in for round 1 after yesterday’s performance.
Definitely one of the positives to come out of the game.
If he can start kicking the odd goal & applying the manic pressure required for this role, then we have decent (& much needed) player on our hands.
I’m confident he can...
Some writing him off already after one praccy match & a very limited pre-season.
He cost us nothing, except a list spot & we are desperate for a small forward.
Give him a bloody chance.
So the dogs were holding firm for our first round (pick 2)?
Unless they were after a player, I can’t see what we would have been able to offer that was better than our second rounder…
Bull would want to start living up to his nickname if he wants to stay in the side. The fact it was a praccy match gives him a pass but if he doesn’t come out in round 1 breathing fire & wanting to hunt & hurt the opposition when they have the ball, he needs to be read the riot act from Clarko...
I might be on my own here, but thought he was good as a second ruck.
Competed well enough in the actual ruck contests & was great around the ground.
Took marks & laid some good tackles.
Whilst it did take him away from our forward line which left Larkey as the only key target, I’d still rather...
Not many players in our team that make you feel calm when they have the ball in their hands… Finn is one of them!
That is not to mention all the other attributes he seemingly has…
Going to be a joy to watch!
With half the bulldogs list now injured, we should be extremely disappointed if we can’t came away with the win.
Fingers crossed we don’t get any injuries to key players (or anyone) tomorrow!
Joe Daniher who was arguably the best forward/ruck relief in the comp last year also was no.1 in the entire comp for TOG %
Happy to revisit this when what have a good sample size of TOG stats.
Looking at Xerri TOG last season he avg around 85%
Darlings TOG for WCE over the last few seasons is...
Darling won’t spend 25% on bench nor 20% in the ruck.
It’ll be much closer to 10% bench & 10% ruck.
Comben is the only option I would like as the third tall/ruck relief.
One of our biggest issues over the last few years is teams waltzing the ball out of our backline due to lack of forward...
I’d prefer Chom as back up ruck too, but I don’t recall ever seeing a key position back playing this role.
Chom seems to be earmarked as a KPD to start the season, so I can’t see it happening.
We’ll know soon enough…
I’d prefer Marley over Teakle but the bloke can’t kick
I like a more agile forward line that can put defensive pressure on the opposition, especially the dogs who like to put speed on the ball & lots of their attacks start from D50
I don’t think it will be any of the players you mentioned.
It will likely be Darling.
I don’t think Clarko will want to upset the balance of our forward line just for the sake of a handful of centre bounces.
If Darling can make a contest & our midfielders can be smart enough to read the tap off...
I just went back to have a listen & Zac definitely said during the intraclub that he has trained all pre-season down back, but his preference is forward.
Simpkin & McKercher look to be our preferred options as the high half forwards, swapping out with Sheezel & Parker in the middle.
He might...
What is this based on?
Im pretty certain he said on Saturday during the intraclub that he has been training down back this pre-season.
I hope you are right.
Yeah it will be interesting to see where he lines up when (if) he gets back into the team.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him play forward as I can’t see how he fits down back with Caleb. Surely we can’t have 2 offensively minded m*dgets playing down back.
There is no room to play midfield.
Maybe a wing...
That’s a pretty average looking team.
They are very gettable.
We limit Bont & their key forwards & we should be in this game up to our eyeballs!
I can’t believe I’m saying it… but if we can stay injury free until then, I’d be disappointed if we can’t snag a win here & get our season off to a flyer.
I think FOS & Scott will both play - a wing each.
Teakle is highly unlikely to play round 1 or at all this season IMO unless injuries hit our big man stocks. Goad has probably jumped the queue anyway.
I think RHJ starts the season in the firsts to see if he can become that small zippy forward...
Yep. We would be more than hopeful both Hardemann & Goater can fill these roles & considering where they were drafted you would think at least one of them & hopefully both would be able to live up to their potential.
Likewise, Whitlock & W.Dawson should be our future key backs.
If only we could...
His kicking has never been an issue.
He would be one of the best ball users on our list.
He does play the wing position well, not getting sucked into the contest (he does everything he can to avoid a contest)
Not sure he gets a look in over Scott & FOS unless one of them gets injured.
Didn’t he...
I think he has shown enough so far this pre-season to get named round 1, assuming he continues this form in the next 2 games against actual opposition.
The challenge to his position in the team will come when Wardlaw is fit & ready to go.
If he shows enough in the first few rounds then he will...
Well you’ve certainly changed your tune from just over a year ago when you went on & on about McKercher being a butcher & shit kick who you didn’t want anywhere near our football club
