    Vale Barry Davis

A sad day. I remember seeing him at a high school athletics carnival, when he taught at Niddrie High, and jokingly said to a mate, “ He’s coming to North next year.” Next day it was in the papers that he had signed on.. He was one of my P.E. lecturers at Coburg Teachers College. A terrific...

What has happened to this guy. I remember his first game where he looked clean and composed. Now he’s the liability.

Sydney playing close man on man defence and it puts pressure on their opponents. What a unique and creative way to play the game. Wouldn’t it be good if our players stood closer than 3 metres off their opponents.

    Player Watch #29: Will Phillips

Second quarter- 2 possessions 1 metre gained. That’s not going to help us stay in a game.

    Player Watch #2: Jaidyn Stephenson

Looks like a slips fields-man who’s hoping the batsman doesn’t get an edge. Either doesn’t want to be there or has lost all understanding of how to play.

Player Watch #41: Blake Drury - 17d/2 goals vs Geelong - keeps his spot vs Hawthorn

A definite upgrade on Kane Turner. Got a good boot.

    Autopsy Autopsy v hawks

Why did our half back men stand 3 metres behind their opponents at centre bounces? What happened to our running for a handball receive after a mark or free kick? How did Hawthorn read the play better at stoppages and get the ball out while when we got first touch it was usually stacks on or a...

    Autopsy Autopsy v hawks

I can’t remember, in my 62 years of following North, being more flat. Perhaps I was young and optimistic back in 1971 when we had to wait until round 17 for our only win of the season. It didn’t seem to hurt as badly as now. So many dumb footballers. 3 or 4 up and nobody down. No leadership...

Hmm. Where’s JHF. I’m sure I heard commentators creaming themselves about him last week!

Autopsy Tale of two halves vs. Freo

Like many, I was excited by our young blokes and disappointed that we didn’t capitalise on our lead when we had the opportunity. More senior players need to lift. Sadly as a bottom team we will get the younger, less experienced umpires and they impacted yesterday on our attempt to get back in...

    Training Training reports 2024

Thanks to all for the training reports and photos. So strange not seeing Zeebs, Cunners and Goldie out there but it reinforces that we are entering a new era and I believe our young guns are up for the challenge. Special thanks to Giantroo whose ability to keep us up to date with everything is...

I think it would be good if he got a a copy of Tom Powell’s gym plan and put on some muscle instead of standing in front of a mirror looking at his fashion outfit.

Bumped We don't play footy to lose - autopsy vs Gold Coast

North win our last game after 20 losses and we can see the potential in so many of our young players. * lose their last 2 games by 190 points, and after telling themselves they were finals bound, are calling for a cull. My * supporter friends are totally devastated and I’m walking around smiling...

List Mgmt. 2023 Trade & List Management Thread

I’d be hoping our recruiters are scouring the top teams‘ seconds for possible recruits. Someone like Rhys Mathieson has struggled to get a consistent run at Brisbane due to their depth of midfielders. He continually dominates in the twos. He may not be a potential superstar but he comes from a...

Phillips totally confuses and frustrates me. One week I see him as the next Andrew Swallow and the next I see a bloke fumbling and missing short passes. I know he trains hard and prepares well but by now I thought I’d have a better idea if he was going to fulfil his draft ranking. I just don’t know.

List Mgmt. 2023 Trade & List Management Thread

After Ryan Bastinac’s comments I decided to have a look at our trading history over the past decade. Here’s my rankings of trades/imports. FAIL Polec, Currie, Ray, Tippett, Hartung, Hrovat, Tyson, Hall, Howe, Bonar, Ahern, Coleman-Jones, Pittard, Campbell, Corr, Bosenavulagi, Young...

Player Watch #11: Luke "Two Dogs" McDonald (Part II) - Roo til end '26 - 2023/24 co captain w/ Jy

Tries hard. Can’t hold tackles. Can’t break tackles. Can’t keep up with speedy forwards. Slow to release football. Plays in a backline that has no structure. Has lost confidence and panics. Short kicks are missing their target regularly. Has decided to just kick long and hope. Has not progressed...

Player Watch #38: Tristan Xerri - has signed a 4 year contract extension to the end of 2029

Really disappointed. Thought he might make it but was so badly beaten at the centre bounce and offered nothing around the ground. To add to this CCJ has had long enough to show what he offers….and it’s nothing. Goldy still adds more than these two combined.

Player Watch #31: Josh Goater - re-signed until the end of 2025 - ruptured Achilles injury vs GWS

Definitely shows potential. Confident that he can add something…..as opposed to some who have been there a lot longer than Josh.

Player Watch #5: Curtis Taylor - re-signed until the end of 2024

One more year as a rookie for depth, only because there are so many others that need to be moved on. The list clear out is very embarrassing.

Well, he’s been given a chance to show what he can offer……..and it’s not much. Lacking footy IQ and skills. Won’t be there next year.

Pressure acts- what a load of garbage. Looked to me like he spent the whole night keeping pigeons off the oval. As a forward he spent a lot of time out on his own - unfortunately it was when the opposition had the ball.

Autopsy Autopsy. Just stop the game Gil. These fools are criminals.

Turner’s only skill is in the backline as a specialist tagger. Has shown,at times, that he can stick better than superglue. That’s it! He offers nothing else. A very ordinary kick. Not exceptionally fast. No creative flair. A great trainer and club man, but that won’t win us a flag.
