I think it shows OMs are doing brilliantly given they've gone 3-1 whilst using 31 players already. Logic would suggest they wouldn't be making unforced changes with such a good start. Must be plenty of injuries that they're absorbing.
At OTs my mail is Nicolosi will resume through the twos...
That's nice.
Here's a little tidbit I found on the VAFA website....
I daresay the top teams are winning games and only replacing players when they get injured.
If it ain't broke, no need to fix.
Conversely, the definition of stupidity is trying the same thing and expecting a different result
Missing 3 regulars hardly equates to a "completely different team".
Looks like over 80% of your 2015 core seniors have played seniors in 2016, many have played all 4.
Fortunately the average age of a Trinity senior player is 23, not 35. Also helps that they happened to go within a nipple squeeze of winning the flag as recently as last year! :drunk:
Absolutely cracking game at Wangaratta Sports Ground this afternoon between the top 2, with the hosts clawing the scores back to level by kicking the last two goals of the game in the final 4 minutes, including an ice cool slot by their standout in Will Brodie.
With heavy overnight rain soaking...
He's coming along very nicely. Understands the game plan and structures well, and has performed well in preseason and PM hit outs. Given our top age midfield is strong and we roll most of them through small forward, he was always going to have to be patient whilst we have our full squad...
At a pinch I could throw Scotch into the mix too. :D
Looks like they have eschewed all their ex-AFL talent in deference to rebuilding in Premier B using schoolboys and close mates only. This is exactly what OTs did in 2013.
I think they are clearly more relevant to a purely Premier section...
I doubt Old Haileybury were expecting to be in Premier B for 2008 after topping A grade in 2006.
Winning a Premier C trophy ten years on is a clear example of a club going backwards. At present, St Bernards appear to be on a similar course unfortunately.
As I said - look at the medium/long term...
Yeah - and my point is that you hope that the players who are recruited into the club buy into the club ethos/culture, as it is in trying times such as now that you need them to roll their sleeves up and knuckle down.
Historically some clubs (eg. old Haileybury, Old Camberwell) have lured...
Well hopefully lightning doesn't strike twice. I know a few players/officials involved at the Norwood FC (EFL) which was his junior club. He returned there in 2014 after finishing up at the Kangaroos and they understood he was in for the long haul there.
Fair to say they weren't impressed when...
This illustrates the point I've been making (perhaps ineloquently) in recent weeks.
VAFA footy is prone to significant changes in playing personnel and club culture from season to season.
Looking at teams "on paper" can be unhelpful as it is rather superficial to presume a moderately...
You go get 'em Brian! :thumbsu:
Point taken SKOB Football. Collision injuries and ankles/knees are largely unpreventable. Sad that so many of the big names are in that predicament.
Frankly, given the huge numbers on your list, those of us peering in from the outside would presume you'd have...
Perhaps Jon Edgar needs a quiet word with his high performance / conditioning staff (if in existence), as such a high injury rate to players over the age of 28 is a real concern.
PS: no one from OMs is complaining about the jump in standard from B to A as far as I can't tell. :p
Three narrow losses by 6, 10, and 8 points respectively - bottom of the ladder with a % of 90+!
Could so easily be 3-0 and the talk of the town.....but obviously they're not.o_O
Seem overly reliant on Saad and McEvoy at the moment.
I'm no bookie, but at this early stage I'd have OT, DLS, UB and OX all around the $4.50 to $5.00 range as there's probably not much splitting them at the moment.
Everyone else would be double digits IMHO
Something about having to ensure each team only plays 16 games across 20 weeks. Way too many byes required in a 9 team comp which runs alongside a 15 team comp.
You need a masters degree in mathematics to work it out
I did say "yet"! :D
Sometimes to get most effect it's best to make a point when the counter argument is at its weakest. Preseason there was much awe and excitement about the improvement in the lists of OX and SKOB and expectations that they along with Blues would rise to join St Bernards as...
No one active on here has rubbed me up the wrong way.
Maybe I needed to put a :p in there instead
I just find it a little ironic that with all this fuss about whose got the best list with influx of ex-AFL or VFL playing and coaching talent, and claims that the competition is far stronger, etc...
As much as I want De La to nail the claret and stout tonight, it'd be nice to tip the card - especially with Blacks getting upset by those upstart AGSV types at Bulleen Rd and the Gazmen saluting nicely this afternoon.
Upsets everywhere apparently
Not to worry.
SKOBs remarkable depth in playing stocks sees them put 15 Premier standard players (they'd all get a game at OC or OT I hear) on the park at 11.40am every Saturday.
They'll be fine.
So a team/club which went 15-5 last season, finished 2nd, won the second semi final, and was a kick away from winning the flag, loses none of their young playing list.....but will probably finish in the bottom half of the ladder.
Makes complete sense.
After all, they did get every other side...
