Player Watch #1 GigaChad Warner: 2024 All Australian

If Warner has got the money to buy a house he likes in WA, it is probably better to do it earlier Whether he is leaving at the end of this season or in a few years time.

Autopsy Sydney Legacy in Grand Finals continues 10 goal loss to the Lions

Brisbane played high risk football to chase down leads the previous weeks. It left them open at times but they were not punished for it. And we had just scored a lot of goals off turnover against Port Adelaide due to their poor disposal. I wonder if we had tactically set up to have numbers in...

Unofficial Preview SEASON 2025 - Best 22, Game Plan, Personnel

I feel it is too early to tell. When they get back from Christmas break. They will still have 2 months before opening round. I think Bice/Paton would be in the group of players on the fringes looking to have a strong pre-season and try to impress in the GWS and Gold Coast friendly games.

Unofficial Preview SEASON 2025 - Best 22, Game Plan, Personnel

Yes. Last few posts in this thread were discussing whether Bice/Paton were drafted to play straight away. I feel the club prefers to have defensive depth. And we just don't know in which area we will have injury issues.

Unofficial Preview SEASON 2025 - Best 22, Game Plan, Personnel

When they were drafted, I did not think Bice/Paton would be best 22 immediately. I feel like the club prefers to have mature depth in the defence. Because it is an area where it is hard to throw a young inexperienced player into. Because you get punished if you lose your matchup with an...

    Player Watch #18 Jesse Dattoli

I think Buchanan might be the forwards coach now. But I think J. McVeigh would have learnt something coaching our forward group to pass onto Dattoli.

    Player Watch #18 Jesse Dattoli

Even if Dattoli had not got injured. Maybe it would have been premature to pencil him in for round 1 and expect him to be best 22 for most of the season. And make a immediately difference in our forward line. Most of our draftees did not really put together a full 1st season in the seniors...

Unofficial Preview SEASON 2025 - Best 22, Game Plan, Personnel

That was why I was excited about drafting Dattoli and Bowman as small/med forwards. They seemed the style of player that could develop into attacking threats that the opposition would worry about. But in the short term, I see us playing quicker running players who can apply defensive pressure.

Unofficial Preview SEASON 2025 - Best 22, Game Plan, Personnel

It will be interesting to see where they play Fox this year. I feel he is best as a 3rd tall defender. But I think Rampe will still play that role. And maybe they will use Wicks in defence as a quicker player who can scramble when the ball hits the ground. I did not think Fox was suited to...

Coach John Longmire - Part IV has resigned

I was thinking about Sam Gray. He was brought to the club because we expected to be in a longer rebuild. But our young players were emerging quicker than expected and then giving them games was going to be the priority. So whatever he worked on in the reserves and however well he played, it was...

Coach John Longmire - Part IV has resigned

I think those issues are going to happen regardless of who is head coach. There are always going to be players upset they are not getting games or players who will be delisted or traded out. And they are still going to be upset about it even if there is good internal communication over...

    Player Watch #18 Jesse Dattoli

I was thinking of draftees who got drafted with pre-existing long term injuries. Where they join a new club and are immediately watching from the sidelines and miss that shared experience. But at least Dattoli got to experience a few weeks of preseason training with his teammates and could feel...

    Player Watch #18 Jesse Dattoli

Its unfortunate. But probably not the worst timing. Got to settle in and train for a few weeks with his new teammates. And then there is still two and half months before the season starts.

    Delisted #25 Cooper Vickery

I also wonder if we were happy to take longer term prospects at that time because we had just made a grand final and had a reasonably strong list. So whoever we drafted might not have got a lot of early opportunities. Even last year we take a long term ruckman, a mid from our academy and a KPD...

    Training 2025 Pre-season

(With the disclaimer that I have only seen 1 proper session.) Positionally Wicks does seem to be with the defenders. Roberts still seems to be with the defenders. Cleary and Corey Warner still with the forwards and during the running both were often ahead of everyone else and really pushing...

    Training 2025 Pre-season

I went down to Bat and Ball on Wednesday morning to have a look. It seemed to be a long session. It started at 9.30 and they were still going after 12. They started with a warmup, then had kicks at goal. Then rotated through 3 skill stations (handpass, marking, kicking) whilst the 3 rucks...

    Delisted #25 Cooper Vickery

I doubt Konstanty/Vickery did anything wrong. I think we needed to open up senior list spots for the draft. (Kirk was one of our 2 Cat B players) Both of them might have developed into solid players in time. But I can understand them wanting to refresh the list by drafting 6 new players and...

    Player Watch #18 Jesse Dattoli

I think Arnold and Buller had back injuries early last season. Hopefully they will be cautious with Dattoli. Last season Buller came back early and he seemed to be struggling physically in the reserves matches before they ruled him out for the season.

2nds Official Swans Academy Thread (Player News and Discussion)

I think Cochran went at 47 this year in a strong draft. And next year we might have a player bid on in the 2nd round.

    Training 2025 Pre-season

They seemed to be tired at the end. They finished with laps of the boundary. But I think they faked them out by then making them all gather at the bottom of the hill as though they would be finishing off with sprints up that hill. Robbie Fox and Corey Warner seem very fit and were going strong...

    Training 2025 Pre-season

They were there Monday morning. I got there at 10am and they were done by 10.30. I think they would have done the skills stuff earlier in the morning. Because in the half hour I was there it was a lot of shuttle and boundary running. I think they must be managing the training loads. About half...

    Player Watch #3 Taylor Adams

I think over the course of a long season Adams can still be useful. Maybe he can offer some hardness at the contest as an inside mid. We were lacking in that area at times last season. They could manage Heeney a bit more during the season. And we will still have injuries at various times.
  23. S

    Player Watch #18 Jesse Dattoli

I think we need Dattoli in the forward line more so than the midfield. Last season we were high scoring. But I feel we lacked a bit of creativity in the forward line. We relied a lot on Papley to generate some attacking spark. (When our midfield were not dominating or winning turnovers.) So I...

    Opinion 2024 AFL Draft - Nights 1 & 2, from 7pm AEST

When you look at all the players taken after Logan. I still think he was close to best available at our pick in that draft.

    Opinion 2024 AFL Draft - Nights 1 & 2, from 7pm AEST

Yeah I thought Neale and Ashcroft damaged us with their ball winning ability and handpass skills in tight contests. Rather than by outsizing our mids.

    Opinion 2024 AFL Draft - Nights 1 & 2, from 7pm AEST

I thought Magor bulked up and looked more comfortable physically at VFL level in his 2nd season. And he had kicked a lot of goals as a junior. But I never saw him as a marking threat in our VFL forward line. My best hope for Bowman is he could be a similar style of player to Nate Caddy in his...

    Opinion 2024 AFL Draft - Nights 1 & 2, from 7pm AEST

How we drafted does make preseason more intriguing for me. Dattoli - Whether he could be pushing for selection for round 1. He seems more solidly built than Konstanty (who despite his injuries did not seem likely to play early). Bowman - How he goes in the reserves. Whether he can be a marking...

    Opinion 2024 AFL Draft - Nights 1 & 2, from 7pm AEST

I notice a lot of clubs were reaching with their picks. I watched the draft with the top 58 consensus rankings list open. And I was removing players from the list as they were taken. (So I had an idea who was still available to us) A lot of clubs were taking players that were ranked very late...

    Player Watch #34 Matthew Roberts

When Roberts was playing reserves. I always thought he looked like a natural inside mid. He was always at the heart of the contest, tackling, locking the ball in and winning possession. (He was like our Rowbottom of our VFL team). So I was surprised this season how well he could play at half...

    Opinion 2024 AFL Draft - Nights 1 & 2, from 7pm AEST

Re. KPD Mraz sounds like he would have been a good option if he was still there at pick 41. He seems a big athletic lockdown defender. But at our 3rd/4th pick, I am not sure the KPD available would have significantly improved on Edwards/Snell who have a few years in our system and be looking to...
