What a competition the Upper Murray has been left with after the merger wasn’t supported…, Last team standing wins then work out what to do after that. Solid forward planning.
Sam Cross will be a handy inclusion for the Demons next year. Good to see a local heading back to his home club.
big chance a few more might jump in the car with him on a Saturday. His mate Matt Mowler loves the area so wouldn’t be surprised if he sneaks a few games in.
4 team comp, Potentially 5 if a struggling Tumba can scratch a side together..., I genuinely don't see the point.
Yes the region and more importantly the youth need some Football/Netball during the winter months but they will get tired of playing the same team every 3 weeks real quick.
About...
Yeah sorry I worded that wrong. I meant that I don’t think Dawson Simpson chose another club because he wasn’t sure where he would fit into Albury team, clearly he would have been there #1 ruckman. however for his own reasons he chose another club and that’s good for the competition.
So what would your preference be Magnets, play in 10 consecutive grand finals with a core group of locals/recruits who have now become locals. Or 1 in 10 and a small group of bush players think your club is a better destination because they could manage to play regular senior football there...
Cudgewa because they are currently going ok. But going ok in a league that is going horribly is not exactly a great achievement. Would love to know there position if they were in Walwa’s situation. Corryong, federal and Walwa form a team and leave Cudgewa to sort themselves out.
Ha ha ha Chris Hyde would rather shit in his hands and clap than go to Bullioh. He will be walking through the bush with a bow on his shoulder not if not playing at Albury...
John Mitchell would be good for Walwa but would still find attracting players the major road block.
So Cudgewa have obviously opted against a merger because they are currently trekking along well and have signed there current coach for next season. That’s fair, but surely as a club they are not really hanging there hats on absolutely belting teams such as Corryong who have the likes of Peter...
And as for Bullioh, well they can fend for themselves. As they have clearly been trying to do for a while now. Looked forward to seeing an UM team roll them by 10 goals...
A single entity team from the UM would be competitive in the TDFL. Pushing the rivalries aside and merging is a much better alternative to no rivalries at all.
There’s no doubt the kids who are currently seeking more opportunities or a better standard in the TDFL would more than likely prefer...
Not much of a wrap for the blokes who did put there hand up and represent the WRFL . The fact is that was the team they could put together and it wasn’t good enough.
Don’t think you will find many representative teams these days who have all of there best players put there hand up and play.
So what you are saying is Corowa don’t want either Rose or Lawton back but have gone the distance in also making sure that they cannot play for another club in 2018...? So if Lawton and Rose decide they would actually like to have a kick at Corowa after all then they would not have them? Well in...
And the club involved who is gaining the players services also wins. What I’m getting at is it’s not always or entirely the player who is at fault.
Regularly players get contacted from clubs that really know nothing about them apart from what they have read or heard and get offered good $$ to...
Must have saved a fair bit of $$ then if he only played half the season...
Perfect so keep a bloke out of footy for 12 months because he has had a change of heart.
Easy to sit back and say “simple don’t sign a contract you can’t hold”. Just as easy to say Simple don’t sign a bloke for so much...
Think Corowa have played hard ball long enough with Lawton and Rose. Why not just clear the blokes now. It really has turned into a lose lose situation.
I understand clubs wanting players to uphold there contracts and stay for more than one year. But what is Corowa gaining now by not allowing...
I think the reality is the UMFL is in real trouble. Realistically even if there was just enough kids not every junior is going to go on and play senior football at their club. If any of them are half decent they will head down to Alb/Wod(can’t blame them). Large amount will move for work/study...
Wouldn’t they be better off spreading themselves between a few different TDFL clubs...? How many kids are we talking about?
If they are a mix from all 5 clubs they were going to play against each other anyway. Feds kids to Mitta, bullioh to tallangatta etc etc...
So is Evan now coaching the Corryong Demons on sat and the EWK Hawks on a Sunday?
Didn’t realise junior leagues took themselves so seriously (AWJFL and Wagga).
Might have to think about possibly switching to the round ball.
This is actually incorrect Old Kenny. AWJFL clubs have had multiple teams in the same age group for years. Well before any mention of league equalisation and points systems.
In saying that was it ever an option for say Wodonga to field a second team in the under 16’s which has an affiliation...
So instead they can stay at their club e.g. Albury. And continue to be a fringe player, play with a different bunch of blokes each week and occasionally get the four points via a forfeit. Perfect...
Scrap the reserves all together i say. Corowa not the only ones struggling to fill a side week to week. It's not great footy. have U16's, U18's and seniors. Let the players who don't get a game play for there chosen local club. As they do in the VFL.
Im sure an extra 5-10k towards an end of season footy trip out of the prize money would be enough of an incentive for 2 more weeks of footy. Plus its actually enjoyable that time of year as the weather is spot on...
Cheers Curry. Another thought also, Nobody really gives a shit about interleague footy or representing their league anymore. So scrap that and replace it with a post season comp between the four premiers from their respective divisions..., this would then uncover who actually is the strongest...
The real issue here imo is AFC has outgrown the league. I really dont think a club nor a league should be penalised for this... The points and salary cap really has not had an impact, it is flawed. Why not look at a whole new country victoria promotion/relegation.system.
For example, Divide...
What league are they supposed to be playing? 18 a side one would assume? Still have nightmares from past experiences when forced to play junior representative football for the UMFL..., Some character building days.
Wouldn't have thought the points system and salary cap is all that relevant in the UMFL. Obviously these sytems were established to create a more even playing field and put a stop to whats happening in the Ovens and Murray. UMFL is relatively even (border walwa aside). Recruiting is hard enough...
