This might have been a knock on them a couple of seasons ago but I don't think so any more. Hard to find a weakness in their side. Strong midfield + good forward target(s) looks like a good way to beat us on paper, at least until our backline and midfield solidifies and settles. I think we're...
On the one hand we could be rewarded this season for the close relationship between our AFL and VFL systems. On the other hand it's a little unfortunate we have less AFL experience in the VFL team than past seasons. Would love to have Aaron Black of a couple of years ago on the list given the...
I have a feeling the uncertainty is whether Schlensog is gone before our pick or not. If he's not I think we might be looking at him and Matt Ling with our two picks.
Agree 100%, it's also not just us who've overlooked some of the board favourites. I'll back in the guys who are paid big money over the guys who aren't good enough to get those jobs.
The part that worries me is taking two Falcons to start, it would be a bit of a coincidence if they were the...
The only part I find insulting is that we've used highish picks on rucks two years in a row after throwing away multiple chances at premierships not doing it for ten years. Never seen any of these kids play so don't care beyond that.
I find it extremely hard to believe that after not taking a single 18 year old ruckman in the national draft for ten years, Geelong would take two with high-ish picks in two years in addition to a Cat B rookie.
Say there are 55 players taken in the draft (I think this is around the accepted mark?) and we have to take the last pick then you're looking at trading up 10 and back 20, which is about right in these sorts of trades. Every chance players we rate highly go within 20-30 and someone we rate...
There's an interesting comparison to be made with Tom Hickey who I think most of us spent a lot of last season thinking "gee he would've been a surprisingly good pickup". Same age, career averages look very similar.
For years we've been crying out for a ruckman who is capable of realising he's 200+ cm and can just stand under the ball with his arms in the air. Stand in the way of the other ruckman at a ball-up and look interested if he's beaten. Throw his weight around in contests against smaller men. It's...
One had unique family circumstances and the other I don't think was really homesick, he just had a WA club go hard after him basically since he got drafted. Duncan and Gola will end up playing close to 500 games for the club between them.
Besides, even if we made a loss on Clark, we made a big...
Yep, or if adding an extra pick when the bid is made is guaranteed to move them up the order a bit at the back end of the draft. Unless someone makes an exceptional offer they won't be doing any trading before draft night I don't imagine. But we could have a deal in principle drawn up to go...
One good thing is that we've got most areas of the ground covered. Good for small forwards and rucks, not much point drafting small defenders or key forwards either. So we can just get a midfielder at every pick we take and hope a couple of them stick. A ready-made key defender would be the...
The value here is fine so no complaints. He's not going to set the world on fire but I do believe we'll be a marginally better team if he plays instead of Stanley.
Yep just one guy with zero credibility, trying to stir up controversy for his employer since next to nothing has actually happened this trade period...
This deal will miraculously go through at like 6:30 tonight and both sides will probably say that negotiations were carried out respectfully.
Can guarantee the alleged phone call isn't winning him any friends at Freo. Despite the commentary from media and bigfooty nuffies I'd be staggered if the two clubs weren't negotiating amicably. If a deal doesn't get done from here (it probably will) it's probably because Freo pulls the pin over...
Two years for Stengle is a big vote of confidence. Happy to add a different kind of small forward, we have a decent spread down there now and can focus on the midfield in the draft (plus maybe a key position if one's there).
I think the club is just as happy to trade into next year as up the order. More list spots and a draft with more exposed form next year so it makes sense. But if we are able to move up this season all the better.
