Opinion Sydney Swans Academy and Rebuild

Nothing worse than an entitled Victorian who watches their team leave Melbourne 3 times a year, then complains when a northern club drafts a gun kid that their team somehow overlooked in the draft.

Preview Brisbane Lions v Western Bulldogs, Round 4, Saturday April 10, 1:35 PM, MARS Stadium

It would be nice to watch a brisbane game with at least 1 defender who can run. Is that too much to ask for? lol.

Preview Brisbane Lions v Western Bulldogs, Round 4, Saturday April 10, 1:35 PM, MARS Stadium

if Noah Anserth isn't named in this weekend's squad, then Fagan only has himself to blame if we lose. We are desparately in need of a quick, shutdown defender and our defence (as of right now) has to be the slowest in the league. The thought of a fleet of Bulldogs players flooding into our...

The Sydney V Richmond game was a showcase into the future of the AFL. Lyons is a terrific midfielder, but he wouldn't have made that Sydney squad on sunday because his style doesn't suit what Sydney are doing. It suits what we are doing right now, but whose to say Fagan doesn't change it in the...

Unofficial Preview Changes v The Dogs, round 4 in Ballarat.

Birchall has been shanking it up all year. Poor disposal, constant turnovers, etc. I would argue that he can't provide anything that Answerth doesn't do better at. At this point, Birchall should be used as a match day defense coach

he's our fastest defender. That's all I know. And his calmness under pressure is severely underrated. I know most people rate Andrews as our best defender and he is, but to me, Answerth is our most important player because we don't have another player on our list who can play the fast, shutdown...

Unofficial Preview Changes v The Dogs, round 4 in Ballarat.

And when there is a turnover, who do you think will chase down the forwards running into goals? Answerth or Birchall? Answerth provides to us what we don't have. Speed coming from defense. I would argue he's our most valuable player because the new rules are more advantaged towards a faster play...

Answerth wasn't dropped at all. He's had a groin injury since the end of last season. Also, he is out best lockdown defender and easily the fastest player we have coming from defence. He's probably one of the fastest players at our club. Answerth is the perfect player for the new rules.

Someone has to come in for Answerth, and as much as I wish it was Birchall, I don't see that happening.

Unofficial Preview Changes v The Dogs, round 4 in Ballarat.

Answerth is best 22 and was kept out purely because of injury. Nothing else. He's faster than Ah chee and provides what we desperately need. Speed coming from defence.

Answerth should be a straight swap for Ah chee. He's an upgrade over Ah chee in every imaginable way.

Have the Storm cracked the Melbourne market

it doesnt, but hey you believe what you want to believe. You literally just said neutral NRL games rate higher in Melbourne. Even though that's incorrect, and now you're ignoring the subject because i proved it was wrong? By the way: i don't care which game is more popular, but I do care about...

Have the Storm cracked the Melbourne market

Swans demolishes Storm in every metric possible. I know Wookie talks about Storm's pay TV dominance, but if you're only getting 20 thousand to watch a FTA game, you're not getting 100k watching it on pay tv. Likewise, Storm has a huge fanbase in Queensland. I say this as someone from Queensland...

Have the Storm cracked the Melbourne market

Also, storm only rated 20k on a Friday night with no AFL game in Melbourne. Those are shockingly bad figures and it kind of kills your argument there. Watch the Swans game this Thursday night, and it will rate more than that and it will do it with a rugby game competing against it

Have the Storm cracked the Melbourne market

Sorry Wookie, but you're definitely wrong on this one. AFL rates higher in Sydney than NRL does in Melbourne during every neutral game, and the storm metrics you provided are somewhat meaningless. Storm only have about 4-5 games per year on FTA. Their first game airs against no AFL and gets 71k...

Interesting fact. The Port game last night rated 90k in Adelaide. The Brisbane game rated 84k in Brisbane. Given the variances in Fox TV ratings, its possible that more people watched the lions match in Queensland than those watching the port match in Adelaide.

Have the Storm cracked the Melbourne market

The problem with those numbers are storm only rated 20k last friday night in Melbourne. I think a storm game did 71k earlier this year on the main channel, but the point remains that the storm doesn't rate when an AFL game is competing. The Swans did 39k yesterday (which is basically 2x the...

    Academy Watch

After Today's game, the club needs to do everything to improve their academy program. We have a huge advantage in scouting and training players who could become the next elite player of the competition, and get them drafted for a discount. Teams like St Kilda came into 2021 thinking their 2020 gameplay would stack up. The fact is, it doesn't. Hopefully Fagan and Co are doing the same behind the scenes, because we won't win a flag playing the way we did last year - no team will. Geelong is one team that will struggle this year...

I urge you to read the acadamy thread. From reports, our academy is poorly run and we struggle to locate any talent at all. Conversely, Sydney's is world class and their resurgence is proof of that. If we want to be the best, we need to model ourselves from the best. And that is Sydney, not...

Sydney is everything a football club should be. They have the strongest culture in the AFL. They don't appear in scandals. When they drop off, they only do it for a few years. Their recruiting is the best in the league. They even turn bad players into good ones and they are able to get huge...

Watching this Sydney team only makes me realize how desperately we need faster players. I don't think players like Birchall can last with these new rules. We need players like Coleman, Answerth, Sharp, in each week. Maybe not sharp because he's green, but we need speed more than anything.

Brisbane is the only city this year that has shown positive ratings growth. While you're right, we are fairweather, the AFL should also take this as a positive. This tells us that Queensland is far more receptive than NSW in terms of AFL growth. A strong Brisbane team will mean a strong support...
