Geelong - Too old, too slow?

Eventually, all the people saying "Geelong is done, their era is over" will be right. Problem is, they've already been saying it for a decade or more.

I think with United, they're a deep team with a coach who shares the minutes around. They'll have different players scoring highly each game. Especially amongst their guards. Delly has been amazing and CG caught fire last night. But I wouldn't expect Delly to keep this up White will be one of...

Sorry I missed the timing. Yeah I don't think he had a stat at half time! Absolutely smashed last quarter thankfully

Thanks for clarifying Don't agree on White- he's beating break even. 19 and 23 points so far isn't too bad for someone costing $232k. I reckon he'll eventually be typically in the 25-35 range as he'll get extra points from blocks and steals that he's missed so far. With United's heavy early...

Another question. Can trades be saved up? So if I don't trade for 5 weeks can I do 10 trades in a single week?

Yes, I understand value starts changing once they've played 3 games- this could be up or down I'm asking how is it calculated? Is it a 3 game moving average? A 5-game moving average? etc Example. Lets say SC values are based on 1 point per $10k. Player starts the season with their price set...

36ers fans must be happy with that game. Harrell is everything they wanted and more. Mayen looks ready for a huge season. Big weekend coming up. Melbourne Derby with SEM looking to avoid an 0-2 start. Sydney in Perth on Friday then fly home to take on Illawarra. 3 teams who look very strong.

I did alright in week 1, but regretting picking 2 Bullets players. Zikarsky and Prather feel like good value but not sure it's worth missing the points. No double headers til round 9. For the benefit of those who haven't played before, how do the value changes work? Players will increase or...

Krslovic played a valuable role for the JJs in 2022, (and to a lesser extent the last 2 years) but this year the standard of big-man play should be very high There are a bunch of bigs who have been in the NBL for years and now reaching their primes – Humphries, Froling, Pinder, Harrison, Hunter...

    Max King

That's all fair Like I said he was almost there in 2022, not quite but almost. 2023 I think he showed enough that if he'd had a pre-season and full year he would've been right there. 2024 he regressed, but I'm willing to suspend judgement because he looks completely lacking confidence...

Surely an astute observer like yourself understands the many problems with this. Preparation, and continuity matter. A lot. Especially for younger players. Let me repeat - the last time King strung more than 7 consecutive games together was 2022. He's also had interrupted pre-seasons since...

    Max King

Well look, let's be fair, he's been smashed by injuries. 2022 wasn't quite "elite" but it was elite for a guy who turned 22 during the season- 52 goals and 48 contested marks. Goal kicking accuracy probably the only thing preventing true elite status that year. Since then he's had 4 or 5...

Depends how his body is. Even pre- injury his NBA impact was nowhere near 5 years ago. I don't think he'll star. Should be a solid contributor. another issue is Humphries does his best work around the hoop, so how well will they fit together?

Windler is what the Cats needed. I like where they're at. Quietly going about their business and they might just have added a quality running mate for Cotton.

In a bottom 5 team that plays a defensive, low scoring game style. He's gotten better every year. He's almost at 2 goals a game, which is a good pass mark for a quality small forward. Once you get to 2.5 you're an elite goal kicking small. Only a handful ever get there.

    Autopsy Round 19, 2024: Saints v Eagles

On the other hand, no one with kids under 8 or 9 is attending a 4:35pm/4:40pm game. Especially a Sunday. I was there yesterday but I wouldn't make a late arvo game. Everyone in this thread seems keen to make excuses for our poor crowds. The Freo and Gold Coast games were Saturday night Gold...

    Autopsy Round 19, 2024: Saints v Eagles

4 of our last 5 home games with sub-20,000 crowds, with 2 of those being Saturday night games. And none being 4:35pm/4:40pm. Yes low drawing opposition, poor weather, cold/flu season etc. All normal things. Worrying no matter how you spin it.

    Autopsy Round 19, 2024: Saints v Eagles

I like your optimism, both of you. The optimism to think things aren't looking dire. However, St Kilda has played 291 games at Marvel over the past 25 seasons (300, but I'm excluding 9 in 2020 and 2021) Our recent home games against Gold Coast, Port and West Coast all fall within the bottom...

    Autopsy Round 19, 2024: Saints v Eagles

Great win. Yes, weak opposition but still nice to destroy someone and nice seeing Membrey winding the clock back But, crowd a real worry. Much lower than historical crowds against West Coast 23,598 round 8 2015 at 145pm on a Saturday 22,688 round 20 2017 at 110pm on a Sunday It's fair to...

Current Trial Russell Hill & Carol Clay Pt 2 *Pilot Greg Lynn Guilty for the Murder of Carol Clay

Great effort by the coppers who talked with him for several days and eventually managed to obtain so much useful information that was later used to convict him. Heroes.

Yesterday's result pretty much cements us down the bottom. Even (somehow) winning 5 of the last 6 we'd struggle finishing above 14th. So we're guaranteed one high pick. Article in the Age yesterday on Battle. I agree, if we can get a pick 5 or 6 and draft another quality mid, it's a no brainer...

Exactly, Saints had beaten Brisbane 2 of 3 Home&Away meetings across 2003 & 2004 before that QF belting. Reversing QF results can happen. Hawthorn were down by about 50 at 3QT of the 2015 QF in Perth, then smashed the Eagles in the GF at the G. Brisbane apparently weren't in great shape on...

Spot on Could easily have 4 or 5 flags in the last 30 years and be one of the most successful clubs of the AFL era. Saints had winning positions in Grand Finals in 71, 97, 09. In 71 and 09 were in front at 3QT. In 97 in front at HT. And could've won 2010 if not for "the bounce" Lost the...

Fair comment Before anything else, at face value, when someone dies it's very often someone close to them Family violence is unfortunately common. If it's true that Lynn had threatened to kill her, and if it's true he'd tied her up and thrown her outside before, you'd hope the cops had thrown...

Totally agree that the fire is very suss, characteristic of Lynn and doesn't make much sense otherwise. To me, it's a possible pointer to his involvement for sure. But I do think the Lynn fire theory has a weakness too, that being the autopsy said the V's had still been awake when the fire...

Had a shocking run back in 2018 and 2019 with Jack Steven, Dylan Roberton, Paddy McCartin, Jake Carlisle, Josh Bruce, Billy Longer, Koby Stevens. Concussions, heart issues, early retirements. I would say we had quite a few players unexpectedly retire early, or their careers stalled due to...
