The reason they’re awesome though is bc of their contested ball work/hands in congestion. A positive for us is that of the top 8 teams, I’d say our list/midfield most closely resembles theirs.
They do not have the speed and dynamic midfielders of the other teams, but they do have incredibly...
Love the look of Smillie too. Reckon his draft vids are the most entertaining I’ve ever seen, for various reasons (mainly for his sheer size!).
Didn’t seem to be finding the ball as easily as Langford at Champs and looks a bit slower? Not sure on that though. I wrote about him in an earlier...
I reckon Langford could possibly be sitting above Draper in our list of preference now. Red flags on disposal and decision-making are a concern for our team, which does not feature much of either.
Speed has a part to play, but breaking lines can be done with a combination of run and strength...
I don’t think we’ll have access to Lalor or Smith, so we need to pick from the rest.
I know many are dismissing Smillie bc too similar to Cripps (like we wouldn’t take a second Cripps if on offer)/ not what we need… But this kid is something else … looks laughably huge compared to the others...
Won’t find much support for English on the Dogs’ board. Very gentle player. Think most would take TDK over English even if looking for next year’s impact.
The whole EF was just a cluster f but geez, the immediate change when TDK came on.
I’ve changed my mind as often as I change shirts, but I’m starting to settle on Smith. I wonder if it’s actually Smith that we’ve been eyeing off all along.
I wouldn’t want to be in Austin’s shoes!
We can, we just need to gain approval. I can’t see our request being declined, especially because it would likely be helping us add an additional player this year (as opposed to a bid on Ben C taking the points).
It seems the obvious approach to me.
It may well happen, though I’d be very reluctant to predict a Swans dive. Port I could see but that midfield surely won’t miss the 8.
Regardless, the top 6 - 8 is super strong. Mostly young teams, or with some crucial young players who will all naturally improve … then the trades where Cats...
Most likely scenario must be that we request permission to trade F2 and then package with 38 to get into the 20s.
From next year, clubs can trade two years in advance as well, so we’ll be able to sort things out for Walker etc.
I feel quite good about it too, but it’s going to be a bloody strong top 8 next year. Far stronger than this year imo.
Whichever team wins, they’ll certainly have earnt it. We absolutely should be in the conversation, but so many good teams to get past.
Lions would have been clear favourites...
Have to see how it plays out.
If Ben C is bid on before 38 (and we are stuck with 38), then it’s a real head scratcher. Well, it’s gotta be a fail unless it’s purely for salary for TDK etc.
Hopefully Austin has an alternative plan or knows something about the Campo bids that we don’t...
Not really - I’m basing it on his omission this year, when the list wasn’t fully healthy.
Done with the back and forward but the reality is that many here are way over-valuing Kemp’s market value.
I’m just dumbfounded by the level of bias fans have for their own players (and against...
Nah, now you’re applying new logic.
But on your point, not sure that a player who was dropped through the season can be labelled an out and out best 22. With a (hypothetically) fully healthy list, it’s most likely he’s currently not in the 22.
Hmm.. well Kemp was omitted through the year. Let’s not forget we had a truck load of injuries as well. Would he have played late in the season with a reasonable injury list? Who knows?
In any case, the logic applied was that simply being in the system for a few years was reason enough to...
This is still making the mistake of separating the return on Kemp trade from the return on Kemp/Kennedy package.
The return on the package could open the door for a higher quality player in another position of need - eg, Hannaford or Dattoli as a small forward, Oliver or Bice as running...
Guess it comes down to how one values the two.
I personally think it works in our favour - cleans up the list a bit, brings in a type we need, frees up cash, and given all forecasts are that it’s a very deep draft, a 20-25 this year could perhaps be regarded as 15-20 in most other years. There...
That’s also narrow-minded.
It should be ‘what can the Kennedy and Kemp compo get us together?’
If we can trade 32 + 48 (as an example) for 20- 25 (multi-club trade), then that’s a good deal imv.
The question isn’t about the return for Kemp, it’s about the return for Kemp and Kennedy combined...
That’d be a win for us imo. Work our way into NM’s 25 with MK’s trade to help them get Daniel. Likeliest and best result for us imo. We won’t trade Kemp unless the package can get us into 20s.
There is room for a 4-way trade between North, Saints, Dogs and Carlton that would see us with pick 25 I reckon (for Kemp (32) and Kennedy (48)).
Too many other moving parts, but it would help Daniel get to NM, Macrae/ Kemp get to Saints and Kennedy to Dogs.
Cripps an exception to the rule imo. The only player I’ve ever said that about.
In saying that, we should get good value next year from whichever player we take at 3.
