Knocking off the almost unbackable favourite in the GF two years in a row is very impressive. Might struggle to back it up in Premier but they've got the job done in September twice in a row now, can't say they don't deserve the opportunity.
Yeah, the EFNL shouldn't be pushing them to relegate themselves, but Berwick and Norwood should be having a long hard think about what's best for them. There's a lot of examples of clubs trying to hang on to the top division for too long and bottoming out hard as a result.
I can't understand the thought process behind half of this this. 5 finals at Woori in 4 weeks? No games at Officer for a month, then two in 6 days? Emerald is good enough to host finals but just the one? All Division 1 finals before the Grand Final on Sundays, but then the Grand Final is...
Obviously Vermont have earned the reputation but I'd be surprised if any of the other 5 teams in the top 6 of u17.5 A Grade weren't also doing it. It's a plague and it's not restricted to footy either, have heard rumours around local cricket where 15/16yos are receiving unsolicited messages from...
I can't imagine any EFNL club would want to subject themselves to the clown fiesta over at Outer East. The appeal of potentially more regular success just won't outweigh the shambles that club administrators would have to deal with.
Don't really think it works to force the blokes playing 19.5s into ressies. If they wanted to play ressies, they'd already be playing ressies. It's not like there isn't spots in the team for them if they wanted to.
Minus every player that doubles up across ressies and seniors. Minus those who fill in for the reserves but would still watch the seniors regardless. Minus those who don't spend a cent at the canteen or the bar. Minus those who don't need to pay at the gate. Minus those who avoid paying at the...
Having seen crowd sizes for reserves games across a range of EFL and Outer East FL clubs and divisions, I would be shocked if the reserves were drawing enough of a crowd to make a significant enough difference to the income of a club that it would have an impact on their financial viability. And...
If a club like Powelltown being allowed to only field a senior team and not a reserves team is a tipping point for other clubs, the whole competition will be dead within the decade.
Hard to see how it could happen unless the RDCA committee bypassed a club vote on it or the BHRDCA clubs were happy to settle for a start in Newey or Pascoe.
I'm not sure how people expect that Powelltown with it's 200 population would be able to field seniors and reserves without recruiting externally. It's a miracle they've been able to survive as long as they have.
Unless they're moving from a league which used PlayHQ last year it won't be flagged in the PlayHQ system as a transfer anyway as they'll be creating a new account in PlayHQ. Good luck to the league trying to keep track.
To be fair to Powelltown, it's a town of 200 people. They're not exactly going to have the numbers for a steady flow of juniors into the seniors. It's a miracle they're still able to sustain a footy club.
The move from u18 to u19 just kicked the problem a couple of years down the road. Teams were struggling to field u18s so they extended it to u19s, but a few short years later they were struggling to field u19s anyway because the root issues of player retention weren't actually addressed.
Would be happy to be proved wrong but I can't see Davy Lane getting that sort of redevelopment. They would need to spend an awful lot of money to get Davy Lane to be able to host footy. Where the cricket pitch currently is there's something like a 10m difference in elevation from the northern...
Hard to understand how clubs can operate an electronic scoreboard at their ground but ask them to replicate that score online while the match is in progress and they're somehow incapable of doing so. Should not be that hard to do.
u18s vs u19s is an argument that doesn't really address the overriding issues of retention for 15-22yos across all competitive sports. There's pros and cons for both, but whether it's 18s or 19s if the youth aren't engaged you're just going to lose them to something else.
