I’m no expert but perhaps they should focus more on building composure in close games against top 4 sides and focus less on smashing bottom 4 sides by 100 points.
I think Brisbane and West Coast are the 2.
Brisbane beat them this year, young players are a year more experienced and they should take a lot from this finals series.A fit Daniher gives them possibly the biggest missing piece for their setup.
West Coast still have close to the best list in the...
I actually don’t think (other than the interchange cap) there has been a particular great change in the fitness side of the game over the last decade - particularly compared to the prior decade.
Essentially, I don’t think the game changed enough between 2011 and 2017 to be considered different...
This is generally true but the talent dilution caused by expansion means Richmond’s style is much more effective than it would be against the ultra high skill Geelong and Collingwood sides from that era.
I guess you can make an argument that Richmond’s game style ‘scales up’ well and will be effective against very good opposition.
But if Geelong’s side from yesterday played Geelong’s 2007 GF side the result would have been about the same as the 2007 GF.
No.
The game has existed for over 100 years and great players deserve respect whether we were alive to see them or not.
If you think Martin has been ‘easily’ better than Coventry in finals then OK I disagree but each to their own.
But I don’t see the point in labelling something the greatest...
I obviously didn’t see Coventry play but I think the fact he still holds records 80/90 years after he set them speaks volumes.
I really don’t understand why people insist on using the qualifier ‘of all time’.
Gordon Coventry kicked 112 goals in finals which includes the GF goal record and is still 34 goals more than any other player.
You might think Martin has ‘easily’ got him covered but I’m not prepared to claim that given his phenomenal record over a number of years.
Or even for younger supporters, North or Essendon.
In 1999 North won their 2nd flag from 3 GFs in 4 years. They made a prelim every year from 1994 to 2000. Now 21 years without a GF (essentially at our 67-89 gap).
In 2000 Essendon completed the most dominant premiership of all time. Haven’t...
It was a combination of the belief that Richmond’s game plan makes winning contested ball less valuable and the fact we didn’t have a genuine 2nd forward option.
Both are generally true (we smashed Richmond in the clearances and beat them in contested ball in round 17 despite getting flogged)...
We had 22 fewer inside 50s and 10 fewer scoring shots yet lost by 5 points.
We only kicked 4 behinds all night (the other 3 were rushed).
Other than Varcoe’s miss late, we took almost every opportunity while a Hawthorn side who had more disposals, marks, tackles, inside 50s, clearances...
I’ve long ago given up trying to guess what nonsense Christian/Hocking will come up with but Dangerfield attacks the ball, gets hands to it and then uses his arm to prevent Vlaustin’s head from smashing into his jaw.
There is a degree of misconception that equalisation makes it harder for there to be dominant teams.
In reality the last 30 years has been a cycle of 1 or 2 teams being dominant for around the 5 year mark followed by some form of fall.
