Agree! Clubs are falling over or leaving leagues as they are now! The Bendigo League is cooked! Clubs stuck down the bottom—long eras of success. If the Cap was properly policed then I believe it would work. However, due to the ad-hoc checking of player payments, every league now has a club or...
Don't know much about it, but if the training is pretty light hearted, (which I imagine it would be for kids of that age), and it gets them off phones, iPads and computers etc, gives them some exercise and allows them to make new friends and learn to socialise then surely it is not something to...
I just wandered down to Arden Street to watch North Melb v Williamstown, in a 4 X 20-minute game. The sides had mostly players trying to get on a list. It is fair to say Hugh Byrne was BOG easily!
While current regulations exist it is impossible to rise from the bottom quickly. Every side has the same cap and some have a few more points but that's it! Good luck if you are in the bottom 4!
The good folk of Rochester will never forget the treatment they received in the early 70's from the Bendigo League. That League was super strong in the 80's to mid 90's. In the past 12 months, Kyneton has left, Maryborough is in recess, K Flat is on the edge and Castlemaine is having their last...
The Points system has never taken into account small country towns that struggle to produce big junior numbers. It's the complete opposite of equalization.
I'm not sure how small towns get improved junior numbers whilst players attend schools in bigger cities. Echuca is three to four times larger than Tatura, which indicates little hope of success for the Bulldogs under the current jurisdictions. Echuca joining the Bendigo League? I'm not sure a GV...
It will be interesting to see what occurs in the future but unless Moama joins the GVFL, Echuca will always be the destination club within the town. The town will continue to grow, junior numbers will continue to grow and the club will go from strength to strength.
The current unstable environment of the BFNL is a determining factor! The GV instantly gains a rivalry with the Moama V Echuca clash and the Broadford circus does not help matters.
I understand the juniors' point, but when you have a town of 25k compared to a town of 2-3k, that becomes more difficult to pull off. This was not taken into consideration under the current auspices.
If you lose your two rucks, a couple of gun mids, a key forward etc they will be hard to replace. For mine, Morris would be the biggest loss as his presence and ability to kick goals whilst resting forward will be sorely missed if he retires.
Echuca will need to find some quality.
Tenace and C Willoughby - Carlton VFL ( Not sure if they will play but in the mix)
S Willoughby- QLD/
A Byrne- Qld
Prout- Carlton VFL- Aberfeldie
K Morris- not sure if he is going around again?
It's a pretty important topic. If what has happened is true, then I would assume people would/should step aside as the BFNL was not run with the integrity it should've been. The natives are restless with Kyneton gone, Maryborough's demise, and the ridiculous concept that Broadford has something...
