He showed glimpses last year of his talent. I’m confident with another pre season we will see a guy that can rack up possessions as part of our new midfield combination. I’m not sure he will ever be elite but I think he will emerge as a lock in our best 22 by the end of the season.
That was the live draft thread. I think you’ll find in the equivalent thread to this one Taylor’s name mentioned. I for one wanted him. Wasn’t shattered when we took Fogarty though at the time.
Very comfortable with our choices in both the ND and rookie draft. With us attempting to trade our FF for Shanahan it will be of some interest to track his career against that of our FF or indeed with Polkinghorne who we may not have taken if we’d been successful in completing that trade...
I think it’s probable that all spend the year in the VFL. The movement likely to come from the likes of Clark, Knevitt, O’Sullivan, Edwards of those that weren’t getting regular games last year. Can’t see too many changes. Really need a couple though to go to another level.
Neale likely stays but unless we get injuries he seems the most likely to go for Polkinghorne from our current forward set up. Likelihood is that he’ll need to bide his time and develop in the VFL though.
Edwards is the one who might surprise if he gets a clear run with injury next year I reckon.
If Neale fails to fire in the first half of the season and this guy is doing well at VFL level, I’d love to see how he’d go with Cameron and O.Henry in a mobile forward setup. Have 2 guys that can genuinely mark the ball yet have influence when the ball is on the ground too.
So according to the WC board we offered our FF to them (and presumably a number of clubs with picks prior) to try secure Shanahan. Ess also offered a FF and were also knocked back.
Big year ahead for Knevitt. He needs to establish himself or at least go to another level such that the club can foresee a future or else he’s on borrowed time. Lack of intensity is his major issue at senior level. Maybe it’s just a confidence issue? Regardless he needs to overcome it...
Now that the draft/trade period is done and dusted, where do we see our immediate list deficiencies?
We seemed to have addressed our lack of ruck depth with Mollier and Pike.
Midfield class is probably still a concern albeit bringing Smith in should help. Still feel that unless Clark, Bruhn...
Did anyone else get the impression that the Dogs gained satisfaction from taking a couple of players we’d likely have wanted in Jaques and Davidson? There appeared to be a smug expression on Sam Power’s face after both those picks. That he’d stolen “our” player.
I’ve seen him half a dozen times live. I’d agree with that. He would sometimes go for too much. I’ll be interested to see how he goes in the VFL.
Of the CGS lads I’d much rather be paying a late rookie pick for Retschko than a teen pick for Reid.
Not the worst comparison. Played more half back than midfield this year. Rebounding role. Dropping into space. He’s disciplined and driven. Good leadership qualities.
