Could you imagine Man U or the New York Giants picking up someone from another sport and putting them straight into the top team.
That happened with Folau, Hunt and that Canadian hack.
Rest my case.
Edit: please don't bring up kickers in Gridiron, that would only be trolling.
Poor Roy lives down there with you guys, so his pieces these days talk about AFL.
A bit like a prisoner on death row, what else do you have left to do but assimilate, and drop the soap from time to time.
No doubt the Swans would boost the ratings, because people in Sydney would watch them if they made the GF. That said, they would be hard pressed to get to 3.95m.
The Crows? How is that relevant?
Are you hiding a few million people down there in barrels or something?
At least they pay.
The kids that are running around the hill at Blacktown get in for nix. So does the accompanying adult, but that is not a fair comparison with Melbourne.
You conveniently left this out:
Nine pays an estimated $200m under its existing contract and chief executive David Gyngell has made it clear he will fight hard to retain the NRL TV rights.
"Nine has a great deal on the NRL now" said one media executive.
"It gets 3 good games each week, plus...
Looks like a tipping point to me, so as long as Nine can show more and more Storm games, regular viewers will build, and this will be the new normal going forward.
Rubbish, we are fitter than our Southern cousins.
Just look at all of the fat kids walking around the city in Melbourne, versus the fit kids jumping around in the surf at Bondi.
No comparison.
Yeah, I missed you too Rob, hope you have not missed me too much.
In any case, thanks to those that came through with the answers, sounds like Sheedy will have his hands full.
Re: Tricky Ricky's Alledged Tryst with Schoolgirl - PART TWO
Nixon must be one of the most gifted people in Melbourne, and that is saying something.
Let the grub burn on all fronts.
Good analogy.
Didn't the Roman Empire start falling apart because they stretched themselves too thin?
Maybe I should ask Izzy for his opinion at the next signing.
I will make sure I get there 20 minutes after they start, so that I can make sure that I am the first in line.
Why the jealousy towards Wayne Rooney?
Bottom line is that if he touched down in Melbourne, guys like Judd and Ablett would be asking him for autographs (and probably giving him a team jumper with his name on the back.....which he would bin when he got back to his hotel room).
I have read through this thread again since my post stating that this was the best piece ever written, and all I can see is fear and loathing.
Point of order in terms of what you get paid, the AFL average salary is peanuts, and that is on a small pool of a few hundred players, not the thousands...
If the NRL puts their game in the best slot for ratings, and the AFL don't, that is the AFL's fault.
In terms of the Storm being involved, of course it helped. The same works the other way too, if the Swans are not playing in the Grand Final, it will rate poorly in Sydney. It is not rocket...
Best article ever written about the code wars.
The AFL is trying to poach sportsmen from all different sports, rather than develop more of their own.
Imagine the next Thorpie, Hooker, Cahill, Lockyer, Rafter etc etc all confined to AFL?
We get belted all over the sporting world, but Geelong...
2010 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifier, Japan - February 2009
The Qantas Socceroos played Japan in Tokyo on 11 February in a 2010 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualification match. 180 Australian and Japanese guests braved the icy conditions and attended a joint BCA and FFA pre-match business reception...
I guess all of the Business figures that travelled with the team when they played in Asia certainly added to the economy in business being transacted.
Maybe the AFL can do the same the next time they play a game in Dubai, the locals will be coming out in droves. ROFL :D
