Yeah Ryan was early and still has 2. He was one we went early on and my guess is it probably be too early. There is a general trend in think both at.the top end and with.kids to go with bigger contract lengths
Agree VP club get a lot right but on the surface it seems hasty. I think 76 said it may be related to an expected big list turnover er in the next 3 years.
Still if that's the thinking I am not sure it's a good driver. Finn got 1 year a.little too early in 24. If Harry doesn't kick 3 more years...
Interesting decision. Essentially means he is signed for the next 3 seasons. Given he hasn't played a game yet and hasn't dominated VFL is it a bit premature? Club must have a higher opinion of him but whats the hurry. Would have thought seeing how he goes early 25 would be reasonable
The 2nd hit on this tape against Wrighty was at Vic Park. A few minutes before Wright had cleaned up a young Eagle. Worsfold clearly said to himself I have to do a pay back. Almost the most impressive thing was it took him only a couple of minutes to "find" a situation where he could deal out...
Your tirade here is not relevent to my point it was injury that stopped Freeman and Sharenberg. I am not defending Hine just saying we dont know if they would have been good players if they got a normal runs at things rather than missing multiple seasons in career infancy where development is vital.
Agree they were both busts but that was because of the injuries they had after arriving at Collingwood. Take the injuries away and we don't know if they were good picks. We never found out. Was just bad luck other bad pic king
As I said I think peoples percetion of these picks come from what they thought of the picks at the time they were taken. Your view is valid but it never got tested. This is where retrospect also gets in the way. You think he hadn't played for a year.
Scharenberg starred in his U18 season, he...
You can call them a bust. To me they are grouped as unknown because they had seasons and seasons of early development taken away from them. To me this means no one can tell what talent and ability they had to make it if they had a clean run at it in their 1st few seasons. Development...
2019 was the year he played his best footy. He stepped up a bit from his very good 1st season. He was kicking more goals per game and getting more of the ball. the 10 game susp after self reporting some bets hurt how that season was peceived
I think the thing that really hurt his career was...
I think these thoughts stem from what people thought of the picks originally. We are all recruiters at heart but Hine is actually a real one. For Freeman and Scharenberg no one has any idea whether the talent ID was correct or not. They were both cut down by injury from the get go so no one...
Yep dont like that, dont have any trouble saying that. For the grandpas and grandmas on the board they had a good Carlton time a long time ago. You Walshy not so much. Sucks to be a Blue in this day and age
Only two since you last beat us in a final 84 and 88, 1 win each
Other fun facts.
Since 2010, the modern era Coll 21wins Carl 6 wins . Carlton Collingwoods bunny
Since your last flag Collingwood 23 finals victories, Carlton 8
Spoons hahahahahahahahaha
Agree 58-90 was tough and left scars. Very different type of tough compared to your last 29 years. The only people I would wish that on are Carlton supporters. I couldnt stand becoming irrelevent to the comp.
You are really living in the past and denying reality. "When stakes are highest...
Good management should have made 5 years very possible and 10 years max. Your other trouble was you went from cutting edge management of footy and admin to a refusal to evolve. Attitudes and appointments were often bad. We had it in the 60's onwards until late 80s. Hurt us but not like you have...
Yeah for sure. We have 4 of the oldest 15 players in the comp. Look at old players retrospectively and the commonest end for them is one season that are best 22, next season they drop off the perch and struggle. Even if they play most games they drop right off.
Its likely that happens to a...
No doubt. None of this is in dispute by me except your last comment. Never thought in those days I would get to a stage where I would prefer the Collingwood ride over the Carlton but that changed.
I know you wont agree but to be so poor for so long , a 29years where most seasons were worthless...
You should , I do too. It was a great day for you guys thanks to Tuddy. Bloody idiot.
The 60s, 70s and 80s were great for you. No trouble admitting that.
Yep
5,11,11,6,2,5,16,15,11,16,16,15,11,7,8,5,10,9,13,18,14,16,18,16,11,13,9,5,8
Based on a 29 year history this current run looks over. 3 single finishes in a row is as good as it gets
So 34 or 35. You probably think you can remember 1995. I picked you younger but geez what a crap life as a Baggar
Should have listened to your old man.
Also I like to guess to myself where Blues posters in this thread lie on the club demographic. Arr0w is easy cause he outs himself as an ancient. I would put good money on Worm4 being the same. Robertio I would have maybe 40'-50's. Saw a little bit of the good stuff but cant really remember it...
Because I love so much the fall and fall of Carlton these sort of posts are manna from heaven. You may as well just be saying we have given up, we are in the shite forever.
Easy for me to say Carlton were the better side in 24. You were. We were bad abd you were badly flawed but better than us...
Apart from when he played a bit of forward in his early years Sidey has always been our 2 way mid/winger. Its not a question of whether he has defensive abilities or not. Like Acres defensive work has always been a strong feature of his game and something that sets him apart.
i agree, there isnt any great argument as to who to pick. I think it should be Acres
I was questioning the view that Sidey isnt a serious 2 way player in a similar mold to what Acres is. If you watch Sidey he has always tracked back deep into defence as a winger
Your overall assessment of Acres is very fair, my opinion doesnt have him as high as you do but its not miles off. I would put him into the combo team ahead of Steele in 2025 no trouble. I don't agree with it making a big difference.
Acres aerial and defensive work is excellent. So is Sideys...
Fair call from team development..I also can see why Carlton supporters would also take making the finals from.an enjoyment view. For our position it's different. Bad season, 8th or 9th no real difference for where we are team wise but the wins over the Blues were the season high.
