Do you know the reason behind Newnes moving on? Not sure he will be a massive loss in the overall position for the season, from the little I've seen of the Boro it's their other recruits that have had more of an impact.
Am expecting it anytime this week, and not really surprised considering even a 1 week extension would make the 11th the first available weekend - and you couldn't expect teams to come out and play with no training for an extended period. And you know that it won't be a 1 week extension anyway...
Geelong will have an easier draw this season and a couple of handy recruits, but they have absolutely no chance of making top 4 next season. Stevie J will leave a pretty big hole in the team, and small forwards like him are very handy these days - just look at us!
They should be battling...
Quiet is probably not the most accurate term, as you are right in he did very well when he was involved. He didnt see the ball as much as normal with the way the game was played - normally he gets a goal or 2 but the way a lot of the ball came in or just went through the goals.
Remember we didn't have Frawley the past 2 flags. Frawley is the replacement for Lake.
The players who are going to be the hardest to replace in the next season or 2 will be Burgoyne, Hodge, Mitchell.
We definitely have a shot next season, but some of these fringe players in Box Hill need...
Love Lake but it's these tough decisions that have gave us this success. Frawley was always the natural successor and settled pretty well into the lineup later in the year (except QF vs WCE).
There is still a lot of talent that needs to be blooded to ensure as these older guys retire in the...
We'll take a solid run at Frawley, and with genuine afl ready players at Box Hill it's a pretty enticing future for Frawley to turn down.
Better shot at a flag than that South Werribee mob and you don't have to live near that ship hole they called Geelong.
Lake will play on, he will get another 1 year contract and look forward to giving Tom Hawkins, Tippett, and another big forward nightmares for another year to come.
After the first quarter I couldn't believe there was no tag for Mitchell. He is one of the most destructive inside players when he gets his hands on the pull without pressure.
Didn't Hodgey cop OP as well a few years back too? From memory he was managed and moved from midfield to half back. To me they are different players with Judd more of a midfielder who could also play as a permanent forward, where Hodge is magnificent down back and can swing through the...
I'm not saying these guys are eternal, it's more the club has a lot of talent and future replacements running around Box Hill plus we know how successful the recruiting has been from other clubs to fill and plug holes as required.
Remember Mitch, Lake, Gibson all missed big chunks of the season...
I'm sure I heard the same thing last year - x players are 30 Hawks will struggle to be the same next year etc. Age is BS, it's more on the players bodies and mind than a number. Lewis is also 29 next year BTW, and only player who has a truly suspect body is Lake with an ongoing knee problem...
Probably been the benchmark for the past 3 years - we had a great year 2012 except for poor kicking in a GF killed us (much like 2008 for you guys).
Hawks have been hunted all year and yesterday was how a champion club responds and wins a back to back which is something Geelong couldn't quite...
I'm sure your being a bit facetious as Dermie is a Hawks man through & through. 10 years on the board as well as 5 time premiership player, it is obvious how much he loves the club and does well to not let that bias his media work.
On the media, King is an embarrassment and his analysis is...
I loved what one of the Fox Footy muppets said - Freo always find someone to step up for injured players.... Hahaha - have the watched Hawthorn for the past 2-3 seasons....
Like the way Healy picked Freo at the start of the match then half way through the game they are underdone and basically...
Have a look back at the last 18-19 games we've played without Buddy and look at our goal kicking spread (not to mention we lost only 1 of those games). Then you will see how silly this post is.
We have actually played as good if not better without Buddy as our goal spread is much greater and...
Congrats Gibbo, has been stellar since his arrival and embraced the club wholeheartedly. Just been immense down back this year and thoroughly deserved.
And that backline will be critical again come next years genuine shot at back to back.
I had my doubts about Clarko until 07 season, then I was a believer. He rebuilt the team after the 08 flag and we have been at the top of the ladder the past 2 seasons narrowly missing out last year too.
Personally, I think it is utter bullsh!t that coaches have a certain shelf life at clubs...
Kid looked very promising from his first match this season, and capped off the season with an influential finals series. Love the way that Clarko and the club bring through these naturally gifted players and give them every opportunity (Franklin & Rioli esp.), and Hill looks like he will...
I think it's getting a bit low when the attacks are getting personal regarding literacy and intelligence - especially if he has to get a minder to read this to him.
Seriously though he had damaged his own standing with Hawthorn supporters through his subterfuge this year, and he will deserve...
Got that feeling he had retirement on the mind after his granny celebrations. Will be remembered as a fantastic dual premiership Hawthorn player that loved his time at the club. They talk about the "Bloods" culture, but I think the Hawthorn culture is severely underrated with players like Goo...
2 players on massive contracts, could imagine that all the other players would be a bit p!ssed - I know I would if I knew 2 guys were on million a year deals and I'm taking a contract hit for the benefit of the club.
