Super annoying that just about every article about Fagan's coaching feat keeps referring to "the oldest coach in the AFL" to win a premiership. Does his age matter?
I would go back even further and say that Lohmann’s dance around goal from the mark with 8 minutes to go in Q3 against GWS is when we flicked the switch and started to play with some dare which then continued on all the way to the premiership win.
Came across this really interesting analysis of our our ruck setup against Grundy, goes to show how switched on Fagan and coaching staff were on the day!
It was all about the moments, we took all of ours and GWS didn’t, Brent Daniel slots that goal after taking advantage or Bailey doesn’t fill the hole or Joe misses one of the sealers at the end. So many different ways we could have been toast but 2024 was meant to be and so it was!
Hard to say how they will respond but I watched a Nick Riewoldt GF preview on Listnr and he mentioned that the St Kilda players definitely lost the belief after the 09/10 losses and never recovered so yeah making a GF is very very tough in modern footy so you don’t wan’t to be letting them slip.
Still find it surreal that we actually did it when virtually all of us on this board believed that Fagan couldn’t get us all the way to the top. Crazier to think that we won the flag by winning 3 finals in a row on the road when we couldn’t do it from top 2 for so many years. I think if we had...
I always thought Richie deserved to bow out with a premiership. Him & Zorko were the two players that stuck with the club when we were the laughing stock for a decade, still happy Zorko got his though and good on Fages for giving him that recognition on the podium.
Unfortunately all contracted players have to follow the AFL code of conduct at these type of events and it’s just too easy to cross the line in this day & age. This article sums up pretty well what went on at this event.
We have an uncanny habit of turning up flat the next week after an emotionally charged win so that will be our biggest enemy next week. I am hoping we go all out and hit Geelong hard!
Ross Lyon two weeks ago after getting belted by Lions: “Jeez they look tough”
Lions for the next two weeks: crumbling like a pack of cards
Funny game isn’t it?😳🤣
We couldn’t squeeze in our second best defender so no chance Fages would have risked Gunston with his hit & miss form and TBH we looked a better side without him for most of the year.
I think Fages just needs to accept that there is an issue with us playing that ground and try to address it with something like you said, I remember in a press conference earlier in the season he deflected the issue and pulled out some random comparison to NBL but the bottom line is if we can’t...
We just need something or someone to help us win at the MCG, may be some temporary coaching smarts to retinker our game plan just for that ground, we just can’t defend there, how we conceded so many more scoring shots in a GF to a team that barely crossed 50-60 points all finals series is madness.
I have 100% faith in this group to go the stretch again next year, I think we have built a powerful team who have now had all the possible finals experience you can ask for. I am looking forward to the draw for next year and see if we get a GF replay at the MCG and if so that’s the one to get...
I think we are primed for next year even without much change to the current list, personally I don’t buy the commentary around us lacking another mid, both Richmond and Melbourne won premierships with one or two superstar mids, I think we already have a very good mix.
I do think we drop our...
So many good vibes heading into this GF, virtually full strength, great finals series (bar the first 20 min in the prelim), goal of the year, Brownlow, it'll be the perfect season come Saturday if the boys can lift the cup!
Me too, also watched the pre GF training at Albert Park oval (I think), had breakfast in Fitzroy reading Herald Sun GF edition on Sunday and then went to Brunswick st oval and also crown casino. Great memories!
Wow what a win, fours years of finals pain and we have done it, go boys enjoy every moment of GF week you deserve every moment of it and bring the cup home after 20 years!
Fox footy might post an AFL 360 clip on YouTube but honestly, it was painful to watch but what I did like was how calm and collective Lachie was throughout the segment even as a mute spectator, I hope the whole team is as focused as him with filtering out the noise and getting the job done on...
