Overpaid in the trade, overpaid for the player.
To be fair, I viewed my rankings more in tiers rather than a straight list. O’Sullivan and Ashcroft were the clear top tier, then the next 10 were largely interchangable.
With Lalor, I think he could be excellent. Or he could spend the next 10...
A+ for Fremantle once we get Narkle on board then.
Poor Jaxon Artemis. I thought he was probably only 50/50 to be picked up but I liked what I saw. There’s still time though.
Interesting that Walls mentioned developing Reid off half back as an option. Maybe we have looked at North and considered the Sheezel/McKercher route with him.
If Odin ends up on the LTI list, we might bring in some small forwards to train over summer. Bring one in there, plus Narkle…
Maybe...
Can’t say I watch as much as WAFL as others on here, but my drafting philosophy is there’s two things you can’t teach - overhead marking and foot skills. And Carr looks to have them both.
I’d be tempted to develop him across half back and eventually on a wing, we’ll see.
Well I did say this morning that Sims, Nicholls, Mraz, O’Farrell and Gerreyn in addition to other talls would go between 30 and 40. Probably didn’t have us taking one of them though.
I’ll be interested to see what we have to say about him, probably give a hint as to where we’ll play him. I’d...
Zac Bailey was a purely inside mid, scoreboard impact was one of his bigger weaknesses. Connor Macdonald was drafted as a mid, 3 years later and he’s averaged a goal a game. Rhylee West had very similar mid/forward times as Reid. Even Darcy Jones did his best work through the midfield, played...
7. Murphy Reid
9. Joe Berry
18. Bo Allan
My rankings were a month old, but not a lot would have changed.
I liked Reid, he’s a footballer. I can see him playing games next year across half forward for us, think he plays faster than he tests. Our board just needs to view him as a half...
Just a few general thoughts…
I get what Sydney were thinking. There was a bit of talk that they were into Faull, so I reckon they’d have picked him. But heading into the draft, I was expecting a run on talls between 30 and 40. The thinking being that someone like Gerreyn, Nicholls, O’Farrell...
I thought it was going to be an upset Richmond fan that I didn’t rate the guys they picked highly enough. It’s not my fault they had all those picks and chose the Gold Coast route instead of GWS.
The good judges have been saying all year that we should look to one late.
I’m all in on Angus Clarke if he lasts to our next pick…but Jasper Alger, Sam Toner, Josh Dolan would be in the mix too. Rhys Unwin, Jacob Newton later on. But you just know we’ll go for a state leaguer.
It’s funny how the board loved the Simpson pick last year, yet Reid will instantly go ahead of him and play across half forward next year but it’s no good.
Simply for the angry reacts...
1. Richmond - Sam Lalor
2. North Melbourne - Finn O'Sullivan
3. Carlton - Jagga Smith
4. Adelaide - Harvey Langford
5. Brisbane (bid) - Levi Ashcroft
6. Melbourne - Bo Allan
7. Richmond - Sid Draper
8. St Kilda - Xavier Lindsay
9. Gold Coast (bid) - Leo Lombard...
We really need Richmond to go tall with one of their back to back picks. Problem is they could get a similarly rated tall by sitting and waiting for their picks after ours. And that brings Berry right into the mix.
It seems like the top 13 players to be picked is largely set, just a matter of...
Based on who we’ve been ‘linked to’ in the media, it does seem we’ll be looking to hit certain needs. So I reckon we’ve got probably 3 scenarios…
The caveat is that I have no idea what we’ll do with Jaren Carr.
First round - Joe Berry
Angus Clarke comes right into the mix with our second...
I have no inside news, but I reckon there’s talk of us wanting to trade up and then reporters just assuming it’s for Allan.
There was some talk earlier of GWS wanting to get up for either Travaglia or Lindsay. So I don’t think we’ll be alone.
I’d consider trading up to secure Lindsay - he’s still my #1 for us, nothing much has changed all year there. I’d hate to see him go to West Coast. Alternatively, I’d consider doing it for Travaglia.
But I suspect if anyone does it, it’ll be GWS.
My concern at trading up would be losing our...
Good drafting. I thought Fremantle and Hawthorn did particularly well.
I liked the picks of Artemis and Newton late. The Fremantle board knows I rate Newton as a late pick, I just don’t see him not forging a decent career. I had hoped to get Charlie West late, but it wasn’t to be. Lindsay and...
Pick 72 Hawthorn - Rome Burgoyne
Without knowing exactly how many list spots Port Adelaide has, I assume they’ll have given themselves enough flexibility to match a late bid. But not in this draft, so I’ll do a sneaky bid and steal.
182cm half back, everything he does with the ball in hand is...
Bit disappointed to hear this was only a fake draft because I’d be happy with Berry, Clarke and McKenzie - small/medium forwards, foot skills off half back and wing were my 3 areas to improve.
If Berry had have been taken, I’d have earmarked Jacob Newton for my last pick. So that was lucky.
