Mega Thread Trade and List Management discussion

Griffen is probably the best two way runner in the game. Let's not revise history here in an effort to console ourselves. As a club we've lost our captain and by a fair margin our best player. We also stand to lose the majority of our senior players. Next year will likely see the end of Morris...

Firstly, that's not how it works. One game of footy might see two teams score 270 vs 259 player rating points and have that translate into 60 vs 49 on the scoreboard. It's about the differential. Secondly, Dunstan as an inside mid would get more exposure to points than a CHF! You don't...

Haha, I bet you couldn't explain to me how it works! And how can you judge it fairly if you have no idea how it works?

Points contributed per game: 1. Bontempelli - 11.7 3. Dunstan - 10.2 Dunstan isn't getting the recognition he deserves, but he hasn't been better than Bonts. Stringer is also not getting any recognition.

Yep, then the Doggies would have four of the top five from this year! The future is bright.

Well I didn't want to post the same thing again, and I didn't want my post to get lost in the previous page, people should find it interesting I think that the stats don't in any way support Lewis Taylor challenging for the award.

This should be how the award is decided. What is the point in having a highly sophisticated statistical rankings system if it's not put to use in awards such as this?

Who is the contested mark king? Cloke, Lake, Brown, Taylor?

When Brian was at the Doggies no one even came close. IIRC he led the league for a period of 3-4 years.

Traded #12: Stewart Crameri - Traded to Footscray for pick 26

    Hey Doss. ... :)

    Best ruckman since 2000

Luke Darcy played his best footy in the early noughties. He won an AFLPA MVP if my memory serves me correctly. That in itself suggests that his best was better than anyone else's and he should be well up the list.

Traded #12: Stewart Crameri - Traded to Footscray for pick 26

No, it's not. But it is surprising that Essendon think that it's possible.

Traded #12: Stewart Crameri - Traded to Footscray for pick 26

In my view, Doss, which is apparently more in need of censorship, the Bulldogs don't need to offer more than pick 22 for Crameri. This is not because he's not worth a pick #15, for example, but because it would be folly of Essendon not to accept pick 22 in favour of nothing at all. My view...

Traded #12: Stewart Crameri - Traded to Footscray for pick 26

Wellingham is not a lesser player, similar quality and went for pick #17. Again though I'll stress that it's a different situation whereby Crameri has nominated the Bulldogs as his destination a number of weeks out. Look at it this way: if Crameri is placed in the National Draft this year...

Traded #12: Stewart Crameri - Traded to Footscray for pick 26

Read my opening post again, players of his quality have been going mid twenties for years. Add to that the fact that pick 25 in 2013 is the equivalent of pick 22/23 in 2009 due to the new clubs coming in. He's obviously being paid way overs to lure him so going by his salary is just silly...

Traded #12: Stewart Crameri - Traded to Footscray for pick 26

Like I've said, it's a reasonable pick for a player of his ilk. Mate if you trawl back through the last 5 years I think you'll find the Doggies have had their patience tested far less than you Bombers! Two losing elimination finals with a combined margin of 158 points and a drugs scandal...

Traded #12: Stewart Crameri - Traded to Footscray for pick 26

They're all players of a similar quality. Like I said, the PSD is not your friend in this scenario. 17 other clubs wanted to protect the state of the game and avoid immense negative publicity for the sport, unfortunately for Essendon the bi-product of that was that they copped the...

Traded #12: Stewart Crameri - Traded to Footscray for pick 26

KPP and ruckmen usually go higher. Pick 22 also equals pick 20 from a few years ago before GC and GWS were in the comp.

Traded #12: Stewart Crameri - Traded to Footscray for pick 26

Every article I've read in the lead up has stated that pick #22 is expected to be traded for Crameri.

Traded #12: Stewart Crameri - Traded to Footscray for pick 26

It might be the beginning of trade period but this deal has been in the works for many weeks. Essendon have stuck their head in the sand till now - that's why Bulldogs people are upset. If it was a trade deal proposed all of a dither and it hadn't been agreed upon then sure, why bother...

Traded #12: Stewart Crameri - Traded to Footscray for pick 26

The whole footy world expected this deal to be done on the first day of the trade period because they know that pick 22 is the right price for a good player. The guy might be your leading goal kicker from the last 3 years, but his goal output is decidedly low for a leading goal kicker. His...

    Official AFL Player ratings

I believe that Champion Data may have told certain personnel at the AFL website of their trials and tribulations in creating the system, and that some journos have misinterpreted that. I think it was one algorithm. Have you read the pdf Underdog? Don't reply again before reading it.

I can't argue with that, but surely 99% of people watching the footy don't take this into account of their impressions of the footy either. I've mentioned this before, and of course agree that this needs to be done, but then you could already go and do this yourself! The rankings are coming...

    Official AFL Player ratings

No they haven't. Adam McNicol, a journo from the AFL website, said that. I've seen nothing to suggest that it's true. If it was, it would of course compromise the integrity of the ratings. Yes that's a good point. Unfortunately it's another by-product of not having gps data to work with. If...

    Official AFL Player ratings

I never said that goals conceded have no correlation to how good a key defender has been. I said that you can't judge a player solely on their goals conceded. It's almost as though you and your stone age friends set more stock by the goals conceded stat than these ratings! Absurd! Give me some...

This method is nothing more than the opinion that it is the best method? You're running around in circles (Under)dog! :D Why do I get the feeling that you're not reading my posts? ie. This measures negating factors on the opposition's score also. The system works with points scored and...
