    Toast Best footy photos ever

He's right up there in the list of "how good would he have been" players. 327 goals in only 76 games. Played his last game at VFL level at a whopping 22 years of age. Had already topped the ton twice and kicked 11 goals in a Prelim twice.

    Rudest/Nicest player you've met?

To continue with the cricketing theme.... During the 1992/93 season a mate and I drove up to Bendigo to watch the West Indies play Victoria. Of course the entire match got rained out. So we hear at the ground that they'll be doing some training at an indoor cricket centre. Turn up and sure...

Opinion Which player from your club contributed the most in flag years?

John Coleman's efforts towards Essendon's 1949 premiership were reasonable: Won the club goalkicking Won the league goalkicking with an even 100 goals for the season Won the club's Best and Fairest Kicked 15 goals in the finals series (6, 3, and 6) Kicked 6 goals in the Grand final And oh yes...

Proposal to include premierships dating back to 1870 gathering pace

No they haven't. From 1989 to 1990 all that changed was the name - VFL to AFL. Same teams. With the same coaches and the same players. All in the same fixture. All played the same amount of home and away games. All playing at the same grounds. All had the chance to qualify for a finals series...

    Most accurate scoring game ever

Wow. Then in the very next week at the same venue Geelong are in a match with a combined 46.17. The round 5 game against Fitzroy was (amazingly) Geelong's highest ever score at that stage too.

Best Ever Games With No Footage

I haven't checked but I think that's still the most scoring shots in a game ever. Imagine if they'd kicked straight. Pretty impressive to be beaten by 9.34 too.

Ch 7 Commentary - is it intervention time?

It's what happens when you have a failed cricketer as a footy commentator. Everything is a "ball" to him. Also why players who just touch the football are apparently "gloving it". Dickhead.

What are some of the biggest pieces of revisionist history in the AFL?

What is legitimately amazing is that it wasn't until 1894 that there was even a proper fixture with every team played the same amount of games. For that reason alone, you can't take anything before that in a serious premiership count. I've always thought the same thing - 1897 is the starting...

    Unpopular AFL Opinions

Completely agree. Was watching yesterday and realised that the push in the back rule seems to have gone now. It just isn't paid at all.

The Matthews / Bruns incident. What was it that caused the aftermath ?

It's a good thing we didn't have commentators that actually sucked up to him and drooled all over him. Oh wait.

The Matthews / Bruns incident. What was it that caused the aftermath ?

Like all things, there's a lot of mythology about that game. It was spiteful all day long, and it was not all started by Jackson. If people ever bothered to watch the footage there was lots of niggling going on. Just as many Hawthorn players as Geelong were giving it out. The only really dirty...

The Matthews / Bruns incident. What was it that caused the aftermath ?

Not quite. From memory it was two other incidents a couple of years later. One was Jim Edmond elbowing Russell Morris, and I think what really prompted it was Rod Grinter's roundhouse on Terry Wallace. Grinter's may have been the first instance of video evidence used to report someone.

The Matthews / Bruns incident. What was it that caused the aftermath ?

It wasn't a king hit, there is footage. Langford gave Jacko a clip behind the ear as he took a mark (as fullbacks did a lot back then), Jacko turned around and belted him. Was definitely reportable, but wasn't a king hit.

    Has collingwood been worked out?

I've thought in all every game so far the margin been very flattering to Collingwood. They've been smashed in all three games.

Prediction One season too many - Now 2024 Edition

It's amazing how many fans - and most definitely the AFL itself - are so insecure when it comes to overseas sports, and none moreso than the US. Probably due to the market size (i.e. dollars). They seem incapable of appreciating that footy is just as good, our players are just as good at their...

Player Watch Nick Daicos - Can he be the GOAT?

Yep. They may not have ever been perfect, but it's really sad how they have been slowly brainwashed by the footy media.

Player Watch Nick Daicos - Can he be the GOAT?

That's exactly it. It's one thing for a player to occasionally opt out of a pack when a collision is about to happen and collect the ball afterwards - I reckon every midfielder does that every now and again. This guy avoids every single speck of physical contact, and flops whenever he's breathed...

Windhager was sensational. Thrashed him pointless.

Prediction One season too many - Now 2024 Edition

He's awful. He's making mistakes left, right, and centre, and half his disposals are going nowhere. It's only because the commentators are too gutless / incompetent / matey with him that it isn't mentioned. Also that Sidebottom is even worse.

Oppo Camp Non Geelong football (AFL) discussion 2024, Part I

Couldn't help but love the commentators drooling over Pendlebury and mentioning basketball for the 5,000,000,000th time, after which he proceeded to be totally shitehouse again. Only player worse was Sidebottom who is even more shot to pieces (if that's possible). Remarkable how gutless they are.

Player Watch Nick Daicos - Can he be the GOAT?

He actually played reserves at Hawthorn in 1980 when he was 18. Openly admitted he struggled to settle in Melbourne, then after his 6 games in 1982 he spent 1983 playing in the country. So didn't actually debut for Geelong until he was 22.
  22. Partridge

Player Watch Nick Daicos - Can he be the GOAT?

The stony and impenetrable silence that comes from the commentary team is worse. Thomas at least potted a few Collingwood players and even said the dreaded "he needed to do better". But none, absolutely none of them dared to criticise young Nicole.

Prediction One season too many - Now 2024 Edition

Grimes is good in the air and in bodying contests, but terrifying with the ball in his hand. McIntosh you have to acknowledge just gives everything all the time. Prestia it seems more his hamstrings staying in place than anything. None look as bad as Pendlebury though.

Here he is... Heeney is ready to take over

I've said openly and repeatedly he's the most overrated player in the league. The last two weeks have been excellent though, no doubt. Be curious to see who gets votes out of Heeney (who starred and actually influenced the game) and Daicos (who got touches).

    Carey or Ablett

I'm guessing you saw very little of him. Because I can assure you all of the bolded is wrong. There's ample evidence too. Newsflash about that era - all the star players were allowed their freedom. You didn't expect Lockett or Ablett or Carey to kill themselves looking for goal assists. Their...
