Packed his groceries once as a kid working in Safeway. Nice guy..
I remember how big he seemed in person yet looked quite average on the field next to the other players….gave me a perspective on the actual sizes of the players you didn’t get as a spectator watching from afar..
A skilled player...
This thread shows that Cats supporters have had their fair share of heartbreak.
But anybody here regret being a supporter of the greatest team of all….?
No way…What a ride!
I remember a finals game involving Leigh Colbert and an un payed mark…..stuck in my craw as it was against the crows, and I had recently moved to one eyed Adelaide and only just fessed up to those around me as a cats fan.
For some reason that’s the one where I felt stiffed, even though there...
One thing about Duncan was that he could have a layoff, for whatever reason, and slot back in with a good performance first game back ( not so much subsequently)
Maybe he can be a 3 weeks off 1 week on type of guy…
Hopefully just there to get to 300.
A few games perhaps, when the result is not on the line.
May be payback for sticking with the cats despite big offers to move west.
MOC …Now there is a player I had totally forgotten about.
Anyone got any mail on his progress/likely role? I don’t think he has shown much in his midfield roles (sadly) HBF /back pocket -such that they exist in todays game -are probably his thing, but we have a few guys in line for those spots.
We do have some form in that area though..(wasting a senior spot that is)
But given he is unbroken and ready to go, where do we think he would fit in our setup?
(Sorry if this has already been discussed somewhere else)
Interesting reading this stuff. I just remembered him as a coach who got very little from what seemed to be a serviceable team on paper.
Granted I knew much less about his exploits before or after. Clearly an important figure at the cats over a long period..
Good innings…
Too small and slow for a modern HB. Kicking prowess seems average. Vision is good though.
Middle or bust for him I think. The early cats pick curse is looming over him I fear.
He can play, and has undoubted leadership creds, but others may pass him by.
2025 make or break year.
The win in Perth gave them a false sense of superiority.
It was never really going to last despite all the doomsayers in Aussie media.
Flaky batting with a couple old stagers running on reputation and an over reliance on one bowler was never sustainable.
Remember they lost 3 zip to the kiwis...
I could play both left and right handed and suggested I could change sides to hit shots while batting and a guy who was an umpire told me it was illegal……
30 years ago suburban cricket. Would have been fun
Not sure he is going to build a career as a test opener with the approach he took.
Well done, but Lady Luck was with him today. Just imagine the blowback if he had tickled one of those first ramp attempts through.
Rooster to feather duster can happen pretty quick on test cricket.
Yes. I love the guy, what he brings and would hate to see him go.
my comment was in response to a post that mentioned potential squeezes in our salary cap and the possibility of another team upping an offer..
I know it would be unusual tactic but should we be worrying about Holmes’s management in any future prelims ? That’s 2 where he has popped a hammy. He will literally be sh#tting potatoes next time he is in this situation.
We could have jagged a premiership, given a good run, but it would have been a steal of major proportions.
Brisbane earned their silverware this year peaking and riding some luck at the right time, in what was a pretty open race.
Happy with how we remained competitive, with our younger players...
Kg and Cornes (senior) have a Saturday morning show here in Adelaide and I just caught the back end of a caller, a local who said that the cats had done it again and picked up up a steal in the draft, I think it was about Polkinghorne. Said the kid was a gun but had experienced an interrupted...
Half the Aussie team is cooked or just beyond well done.
I think we are heading for some long format pain over the next few years as standout replacements will be hard to find but I reckon we are just coming back to the pack. Most other countries ( India possibly excepted) are in the same boat...
No real standouts for sure. Talent is spread so thin, but we are not the only country with this happening.
Cricket, especially long form, really at the crossroads.
