Just make sure that the source was relatively untraceable to me, and that if questioned I wasn't going to admit to having obtained the information on which the bet was based. As a moderate punter, I'm also interested as to what sort of info could make an AFL bet an absolute lock.

Why not? Bookmakers will often have access to similar info, and will not inform their punters. As long as the source is safe, then I don't have an ethical problem with making the bet.
