Carey had an astounding finals record. The man was made in the 2004 finals series. He is better than Kernahan in every area apart from off-field leadership.
Carey was the best onfield captain - and by a margin. He always stood up when required, he consistently brought other players into the game, he asserted himself physically to help out teammtes, he directed traffic and he inspired. And he did it all from the hardest position on the ground...
Re: Josh Gibson
Firrito was better last year, Gisbon is better this year, but with Grima and Thompson coming on in 2009, there was no rom for him.
That is not to say he was a bad player, but he was surplus to our needs and still is.
It was a win/win - no way North would reverse that trade.
We are a very different team from round 1.
I reckon we will do ok. It will be tough, the MCG is an unknown 3/4 into the season, but it is winnable. Strangers things have happened.
Hope we go with some bold, rather than safe, selections.
Time to inject a bit of excitement!
Tarrant for Grima (Narni to get fitness up, Tazza big, exciting and in form - Tarrant head to head with Cloke)
Urquhart for Pratt (Probably a week early for Urqs, but caution to the wind, his form is building and his boot and pace could change our team...
McKinley is the 6th player in what is going to be an aweome 'Who is the better import?" poll at the end of 2015
Romance Lance Picione
Sizzling Shane Harvey
Cunning Cam Thurley
Jumping Jonny Hay
Slammin Sammy Power
Bustling Ben Mckinley
Who does it apply to?
Would Trengove and Martin be better at Geelong?
The only example I can think of where it did apply was Des Headlend. But he was a very outside player.
I don't think it can be leveled at any mid with a inside game.
If Laidley had got the trade for H-Mac for pick 4 through, we would have had our choice of (one of):
Hamish Hartlett
Michael Hurley
Chris Yarran
Daniel Rich
Steele Sidebottom
Would people have been happy with any of those in retrospect or is Hamish more important to us going forward?
Was very surprised to see LA as sub given his game vs GC.
He really came on and made an impact - agree that after a rough start he is really starting to come good.
We didn't thrash them. And we are a fair margin better on paper, so they should take some heart that they managed to grab a lead late and get within 21 points by the end.
it is something to build on.
Friday night doesn't get more boring than Bulldogs vs Adelaide
Buddy ain't too bright
North Melbourne have a far superior list to Essendon
Reiwoldt is a shell of the star he once was
Dustin Martin is unbelievable and should have gone number 1 in his draft
Freo are mentally weak
