Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

Very fickle crowd Auckland even for sports they grew up with. Very doubtful mid season even with a full sized stadium Auckland vs GWS on a cold July afternoon gets more than 4000

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

Even with a stadium do you see it getting on average more than 10,000 people per home game?

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

If Liam Jones can make it as a defender do can this guy. Reckon he’s good enough to be rookies by a club light on for KPD

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

Sport has a lot less politically power in NZ than it does here. Tests don't draw big crowds so it wouldn't surprise me if they were nomads for a few summers and took the tests around the country to places like Hagley Park in Christchurch and other boutique stadiums

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12161421 Any hopes of an Auckland stadium any time soon look pretty hopeless

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

Not sure. Hasn’t been a lot of talk about it going ahead. The grounds there just needs some stands put in. Their doing it more for cricket to be played there

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

The western springs proposed stadium still hasn’t started being built

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

Homegrown + Simon Black I think. A lot of the squad made up of players who have moved to Aus and playing local footy here

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

Fitness looks like big difference. Academy won every quarter by more and more

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

Oh yeah that makes sense. So is the cutoff that they can't have played junior footy in Australia to be eligible?
  11. jd2010

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

So a player just has to be born in a country to be eligible even if they moved to Australia and started their AFL in Australia as a kid?

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

Is number 26 one of the boys listed on the ST kilda list?
  13. jd2010

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

Pretty sure you have to have played in your country before you represent them at the IC. Might be wrong. But for example a kid born in NZ who moves to Melb at a 2 year old and gets right into footy wouldn't be eligible for the NZ side at IC.

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

I like your enthusiasm. Have you been over to NZ recently? I kid you not I reckon only 10% of the kids I coached knew who Buddy Franklin is. No doubt once kiwis play the sport they enjoy it. It's about getting them into watching professional afl and caring about the sport which is failing

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

Not a lot going on at the moment it's rugby season for the kids

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

One live game this week and just 3 in total for the weekend. Can't really blame anyone about what live game gets scheduled due to the time difference but the one game this week is probably the worst of the round as well. Wonder what Duke's thinking with the AFL is. Is it being dropped because...

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

It was common practice in the 3 countries I coached/played in that we got the guys to watch the game in the morning and we played in the afternoon. Live games are a massive advantage in Europe and here in NZ because the times they are on suit the audiences. Europe: Saturday morning pre-game...

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

Also you proved you know two thirds of **** all when you said Duke is the highest rated network. Duke is like a 7mate of TV One. Tv one is the top dog but Duke is a nothing channel in comparison like Mate and Gem in Oz. Tv one does no advertising of the AFL on Duke only Duke itself does.

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

Hahahahaha live is a disadvantage. In Europe live afl is on around 7-10am Saturday mornings and would lead into local leagues which are played Saturday from 11-5pm at the same time as the afl season. Has a great way of engaging those who are learning the game

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

RedV3x id like to know what you know about the afl in NZ or anywhere outside of Australia. In terms of live FTA coverage, replays on FTA, local comps, youth development etc. I'd also like to get your opinion what tv show rates more, Ellen at 10am in the morning or Masterchef at 7pm?
  21. jd2010

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

1% reach is what Duke has. That's then only ratings info readily available over here. It's clear you're not all there so I want insult you or try and teach you anymore about how tv timeslots and ratings work. Time and time again I've explained to you how the game has gone backwards this year...
  22. jd2010

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

What numbers are you after? Tv ratings aren't published in NZ. The numbers I do have is that there are 2-3 less live games a week on tv and the same number of replays. I really think I'm talking to an invalid here. I just told you there are 50-60 kids across 3 very different age groups...
  23. jd2010

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

Coverage as a whole is down. The replays they have on now they already had last year with the extra live games so the number of games shown is down. That's before even looking at the ratings and time slots with and educated marketing/sponsorship/tv brain which you don't seem to want to...
  24. jd2010

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

Well it has gone backwards. I've said many times now that 0 coverage was incorrect and was more venting that it's 25-50% the FTA coverage of last year. Yeah I've watched, played, coached all levels here. Not sure what your point is? The national comp is a step in the right direction and should...
  25. jd2010

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

How is football growing when it's broadcast at stupid hours midweek when most the audience they might capture is at work, school or uni compared to last year when it was broadcast live into homes Friday and Saturday night? The definition of growth is increasing its size. Losing those 2 prime...
  26. jd2010

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

It would be nice to know why they have lost 2-3 live games a week and the highlights show being broadcast during the week in prime viewing time (7-9pm it was previously on). Think it's on in the middle of the day on a Monday or Wednesday now. Is it the cost the afl is charging being too much...
  27. jd2010

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

The 2016 season your quote says. The 2016 season had very good coverage. It's the 2017 season that's struggles to keep up hence my comment about the game going backwards with its reach this year
  28. jd2010

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

No it's from the only tv ratings report from last year. Their nightly peak is 1% reach. It's backwards from last year. Backwards doesn't = growth. 2 live games this weekend is not bad. But like I said last year had the Thursday (if there was one) and Friday night games live at a great viewing...
  29. jd2010

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

How's it growing? It's gone backwards from last year where there were 4 LIVE games a week plus those replays. It's lost tv time on a channel that has 1% reach in NZ. The schools program is doing very well but its main development program and national and regional leagues are played in late...
  30. jd2010

Can AFL make a footprint in NZ?

The only stats on Duke are that their reach is about 1% of NZ households. So 40,000 people at it's absolute best TV times during the week.
