London and Chicago Marathons for me this year to round out the 6 WMMs.. pretty excited and hopefully can reach both start lines in decent shape.

Mizuno wave inspire as my high mileage road training bricks. Nike Vaporfly Next% for road racing. For trail have the Hoka Speedgoats and Nike Pegasus Trail. Hard to split them, both excellent.

Hopefully Dane can get you up and going again. Sounds like you are doing all the right things and giving it your best shot, well done on that. Stay positive mate and best of luck. Good news on the achilles anyway.. :)

Just saw this mate, wow, what a roller coaster ride you're having. I thought you had achilles issues, but obviously it's the knee. Did you have surgery? How did it go? what is the plan from here on?

I try to rest one day a week, but it can vary. If I'm sore or have niggles I'll rest more, if I'm feeling OK and in heavy training can go weeks without resting. Your body will tell you when it needs a rest.

Brilliant, congrats on the sub 3, that is awesome. I reckon the best trail run for a relative newbie is Two Bays in January... 28 and 56k options. Haven't done any of those you've mentioned, but Surf Coast Century is absolutely sensational.

Another shoe fanatic here, rotate about 5 for road and 5 for trail. Specific shoes for training mileage vs racing. Family is used to the boxes arriving in the mail, still get the eye roll though.

I do virtually all training runs under 2.5 hours fasted. Gets your body used to burning fat and the gels also have more benefit during a race as you’re not used to them. Inside running podcast discusses this a bit in an older episode, I think around ep 83?

Thanks PH, pretty stock standard sort of training, but I guess key for me this year has been consistency (after 18 months getting over a hammy injury). In the 8 week training block for Melb Mara I missed 1 day of running only, which is not usual. Typical week during this block was 100-110kms...

Sunday morning Melb Mara was terrific, weather perfect and the atmosphere great. Had the Next% on and wow they are amazing. My legs didn't feel anywhere near as trashed as normal. Had a 7 min PB at 2:51 which I'm stoked about.

No good mate. Easy to say hang in there, but the frustration must be bloody horrendous. Feel for ya.

Ran the Sri Chinmoy half at Albert Park 1.5 weeks ago, stoked with a 1:25:31, a pb by 3 mins, and at 50 yrs old. Perfect weather and no wind made for ideal running conditions.

Craving for runs is normal! Try Inside Running, it’s a ripper podcast, 3 Aussie elite marathoners, great to hear how they go about it and they have funny stories and great guests.

Nice Willo_ best motivation is to find training partners, join Strava and keep revising and improving your own pbs. Try trail running, train in a few pairs of diff shoes and mix them up and don’t run every run flat out, slow runs are just as important. Nice reading your story, stick with it...

Had a 14:02 mate, 2 mins away from a silver buckle, bugger bugger. Enjoyed the event, spectacular scenery of course, really well organised but so many bloody stairs... was brutal. My left knee started playing up coming down Ironpot, about 30kms in, so all the downhills were really painful...

Inside running is the best. Runners Chats is pretty good too - Melbourne focus, S02 E16 with Tegyn Angel is a good listen.

Wow MB, that is quite a read and congrats on toughing it out given the obvious physical duress you were under. I had 4 mates all going for sub 3 (and based on training they were all more than capable, and had sub 3’d previously). End result for all 4 was 3:08 (after a 1:27 first half), 3:14...

As per MB, was brutal! I had 3:30 pacing duties, and it was such a great experience, people happy to chat and ask questions, and you feel more like you’re running to support others rather than for yourself. But that wind and direct sun meant being really careful to take on enough fluids and...

Agree MB, and I reckon you have a sub 3 in you this year for sure at MM. Your strava efforts have been unbelievable in 2018. Positive mindset is a massive part of getting sub 3... Yep you can't hide in a marathon, your result absolutely reflects the training put in.

Running gets better at 40! Just turned 50 myself, but had PBs as a 49 year old (5km @18:39, full mara @ 2:58, and 100k @ 10:50). Maybe it is having a bit more free time to train properly and less of the worries a 20/30 year old has, dunno. Looking forward to being a 3:30 official pacer at...

Wow Buzzasto DaSilva that sounds frightening. Also ran Boston and you’re right, it was as close to a blizzard as I’ve ever run in. Freezing freezing cold, rain that was either torrential or very heavy and enormous headwinds almost blowing you backwards. I was just happy to finish! The...

Best to do it as soon as entries opens, which I think is around July from memory. They have a happy hour special on opening night, I normally get on then. Little bit of motivation knowing you've already entered. They tend to have a waiting list from about a month out, which is Facebook...
