Suns in the Media - Part I

I found a cool interview you guys might be interested in. Check out the podcast The Footy with Broden Kelly (of Aunty Donna fame). This week they interviewed Rosco Elliott the writer of the Suns song. There was an interesting part where he alluded to the club name too. He submitted the "Suns...

News PeopleFirst (Bank) Stadium and Precinct

What about a spur from the trainline that the train would just use on game days? On game days, the train could veer from Nerang to the stadium, then back on to the track to complete its normal route. That way you wouldn't have vehicles just sitting there. Sydney Olympic Park already has...

News PeopleFirst (Bank) Stadium and Precinct

My knowledge is from Google maps and news stories, so shut me down if I'm completely wrong. I believe the eventual goal is for new light rail line to come ~10km from Broadbeach, past the stadium, and the Nerang train station, right? With that unlikely to be accomplished by the Games, would a...

Analysis Single Malt GC Sporting Updates (TITANS NEWZ)

Interesting. I had seen that Townsville had that name but didn't realise why they'd change it. I wonder if Pheonix has since calmed down, the AFL negotiated for the GC name, or whether it was okay in a different sport. The only other (semi-)pro "Suns" I could find were the Tshwane Suns, who do...

Analysis Single Malt GC Sporting Updates (TITANS NEWZ)

That'd be cool. Do you think there'd be a chance of a Suns ownership of an NBL team? Similar to GWS and Collingwood in the netball? They'd already play right nextdoor to Metricon, and it'd give the Suns year-round media coverage, and could make Carrara a real Suns district. And the colour...

News PeopleFirst (Bank) Stadium and Precinct

It's not that GWS doesn't have a stadium sponsor, it's that they ARE the sponsor. They've got some wealthy backers who pay for the naming rights. Sydney Thunder, who share the stadium, weren't happy about it though.

Ahh bugger. Glad I didn't pay for that answer. Thanks for checking!

    AFLW AFLW Season 2022

Hi team Sorry to intrude, but I was wondering if anybody knew how much the AFLW deal with Mackay was worth per game? I believe it's in this article, but I don't have couriermail access.

Biggest Metricon crowd since 2019 and the biggest crowd against the Blues since 2013. A good result!

Analysis Single Malt GC Sporting Updates (TITANS NEWZ)

I'd say Covid hesitancy would be a factor, too. The Carlton v Richmond opener had its lowest crowd since the fixture started in 2015 and it was the first time in a while a close contest was expected. I think hesitancy has affected crowds across the board.

Academy: Gold Coast SUNS Gun Factory

I see your point. It's pie in the sky stuff for now, but if the AFL were to help fund it, you'd get a lot of bang for your buck there. I was actually at the MCG for the 2017 International Cup grand final. Got to see Ace live, knew back then he'd be a gun.

Academy: Gold Coast SUNS Gun Factory

Exactly, PNG has made the final in all six editions. They've definitely got the talent. Combine that with earlier AFL-level coaching, there'd be a good chance for quite a bit of AFL talent. The International Cup was supposed to held on the Sunshine Coast in 2020. If it's still there in 2023...

Academy: Gold Coast SUNS Gun Factory

I'd actually like to see the Suns academy expanded to include PNG. PNG already has 70k Aussie Rules participants. There could be a lot of untapped talent there. PNG and Cairns already have close ties, so it seems like a natural extension. Set up something in Port Moresby, and if it's successful...

Hi Suns I've only been to the Gold Coast for a holiday, so I could be way off base here, but do you know if re-rerouting the Gold Coast line has been considered to bring fans closer to the stadium? The red is the current line. There's a tonne of green space between the line and the stadium...
