Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

Not on its own but I think it could be a factor for some.

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

When mount Wellington is covered in snow Hobart is both beautiful and cold, very cold. I spent most of my time in Launceston, where the team will spend some time and that's a different level of cold. I'm not talking tassie down as I loved my time there, I'm just trying to get my head around...

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

The reality is that there is zero chance of AFL making a commitment to Tassie any time soon. The financial impact of covid has put a Tassie team down to number 172 of the agenda items.

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

Can I ask why you say this, I am genuinely interested as I lived there for some time and I want to know why other people have negative impression of Tasmania.

Apple Isle Showdown: Tas Govt threatens to end Hawks, North deals if no plan for 19th side

I lived in Tassie for 13 years and would love to see them have a team but your post is off the mark. It gets cold in Hobart where they would be based. For example drafting a 17 year old from Perth in Hobart is going to have problems. It will be very hard for them to settle. As for slipping...

Play Nice Richmond, set to become the biggest club in Australia, now with 100K members

Bulldogs are planning on giving away 50k free memberships next year..... we are closing the gap. Good PR from Richmond at no cost.

    Koch slams Kennett over pokies

good points you make. I am not saying i am okay with clubs being involved. Personally id like to see all clubs out of pokies but we need to understand that it will make squat of difference to the problem. It will simply change where the money goes.

    Koch slams Kennett over pokies

I think you are missing the point. The reference to Woolies has nothing to do with people buying food at their supermarkets. Woolies are the biggest pokies operators in the country. People are going to play pokies regardless of who owns them. They are a cancer on our society that sadly will...

We both know the answer to that.

    Koch slams Kennett over pokies

AFL clubs walking away from pokies wont make squat of difference to the punters who throw their money at them. The money will simply go to the new licence holders. Until govt start reducing the number of pokies (to zero) the problem will remain, its just a matter of who else fills their pockets...

St Kilda - time to get your house in order

So you think it is St Kilda football club at fault because people in melbourne do not want to go and watch freo at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon in the middle of winter? Fmd

The league didn't own docklands. That was the problem.

St Kilda - time to get your house in order

The deal st kilda, bulldogs and north were on for 15 years was criminal. We had to pay the stadium on many occasions to host low crowd drawing teams.

St Kilda - time to get your house in order

I remember the hype around docklands opening and how it would be the saviour of both our clubs. We got shafted as did north.

St Kilda - time to get your house in order

Gil pointed out that st kilda has mostly bad debt. Debt that hasnt been used to invest in increased revenue. There is debt and then there is debt.

St Kilda - time to get your house in order

Tassie at the time was seen in a similar light to clubs like mine selling games to darwin or cairns. My recollection is as soon as st kilda started to improve on field in 04 (ish) they pulled the pin as they thought they no longer needed the money. I moved to tassie in 03 and was surprised how...

St Kilda - time to get your house in order

Similar position to dogs a few years back. It can be turned around. St Kilda have made 2 really bad decisions in the last decade or so. 1. Leaving Tassie. 2. Moving base to seaford. Both have cost them.

The big 4 clubs and the AFL's future

Agree with the OP, well the first couple of lines anyway. I didn't read past that. Get the dogs, kangas out of the 8. Do what needs to be done to prevent the saints and demons from getting there. Realign the planets AFL and let's get things back to normal. Omfg, are you serious.

VFL Almost closed by corporate regulator 1986

Wasn't that the trigger for the creation of the crows. If I rememb correctly Port Adelaide had come to an agreement to joint the National comp which forced the SANFL administration to form a team.

The "Annual" Good Friday football discussion thread

So you think Carlton should get the opener each year then followed shortly after (most years) with a good Friday game. Are you serious.......did you not watch Friday night football last year? The argument for higher drawing clubs just doesn't stack up for good Friday games. The ratings would...

AFL 2015: Report reveals true value of Friday night footy to clubs

Most people would prefer Bulldogs who knew that last October when the fixture was decided. The only way for a real comp is a 3 year rolling fixture with a 3 year rolling exposure to the prime time spots. The problem is easy to solve, but unfortunately for football people it doesn't bring the...
