    Rudest/Nicest player you've met?

Interesting insight. I've got three others I talk AFL with just in my team of eight in Canberra. If I expand it to my closest 40 or so colleagues for comparison's sake, I think I'd have 10-12 I talk AFL with.

A Fed Gov funded NRL team in PNG vs an AFL team in NT

Not great for the long term. You want a team that can stand on its own if the funding dries up. The PNG deal touted is for ten years. Even after ten years of establishing itself, an NT team would collapse if government funding stopped. Less ludicrous, but still ludicrous.

A Fed Gov funded NRL team in PNG vs an AFL team in NT

Give a team in Toowoomba or Geraldton $60 million and they'll do okay, too. But who's paying for that? The PNG proposal is foreign aid designed to keep PNG in Australia's sphere. There's no justifiable reason for the government to fork out $60m for an NT AFL team. And without an absurd amount...

A Fed Gov funded NRL team in PNG vs an AFL team in NT

The fact that Darwin only has 140k people. The NT has too few people, and it too sparse to support a team. Its own scoping report said as much.

A Fed Gov funded NRL team in PNG vs an AFL team in NT

I wish Google would update that stat. It's old and only includes the ACT. The ACT has about 475k people. Canberra-Queanbeyan has about 525k, and within 70 mins, we've got about 600k.

AFL to zone entire Northern Territory to North Melbourne

The NT can't sustain a full-time team. Swapping Tasmania's four games to the NT should be more than enough.

    Expansion 20th AFL team location

I heard of plenty of people that couldn't get tickets as well. With a larger capacity, it would've got 14-15k. Which is more than Gold Coast got against the Lions in last year's QClash.

The Giants only have eight players on their list from Canberra and the Riverina (18% of their list). The Riverina is pretty far from Sydney, so a lot of players that have gone through the academy still end up in Melbourne. Three quarters of current academy products are no longer playing with the...

    Expansion 20th AFL team location

Canberra only gets two games during the Easter Show, so no issue with scheduling with the later one. In a normal season, there's a five or six-game stretch over the Easter Show. I reckon the Giants only need to fill that with one Accor game in the middle to break up the stretch, then get more...

You say that, but the AFL has the most clubs of any professional league in Australia, and it got that way by going slowly. It's the only Australian pro league I can think of that hasn't rectracted or had to fully reform. Slowly and steady is boring, but it's got the AFL to its pre-eminent position.

It won't be. Just because they've put their hand up doesn't mean they'll get it. The NRL picks from bids, the AFL puts teams where they want them. And it makes no sense for the AFL to put the 20th team in SA.

The first two actually have City in the city's name to differentiate from the state. Perth City to me sounds like you're referring to the CBD.

This video pretty much sums up why I'm apprehensive about continuing the Giants-Canberra partnership. And I say this as a Giants member who appreciates what the Giants have done in Canberra in general. Canberra should absolutely be in the conversation. We're one of only two places viable of...

They've got common sense. They've just used it all up all choosing to live in Canberra over Sydney.

I wouldn't want it as a primary colour, but I'm fine with lime as a secondary or trim. Something like the below (good call with Bing Coolangatta). Canberra United use lime, so to do the Sydney Thunder (which play part-time here and people are pushing for a Canberra relocation). It was originally...

How does sky blue represent the ACT? It's NSW's colour, which is a completely different jurisdiction, and most Canberrans have no affiliation with NSW.

I quite like the green, blue and gold. ACT colours, plus the green for the bush capital. If we went lime green, I'd like to see it paired with primarily black, and more of a green trim.

Was just about to post this, but couldn't find the full article. A third team in the wider NSW region. Metro of 500-600k. Pretty similar to Canberra, but without the footy support. I think Sheedy would be pro-Canberra if he weren't so intertwined with the Giants. The summary says Sheedy is...

Three games would be enough to cover Darwin, and one enough for Alice Springs, so North could transition its four games from Hobart to the NT without much disruption.

The AFL currently has five birds and five mammals. The Tasmanian Devil will be the sixth mammal. A sixth bird team is fine. And an owl, kookaburra, galah, cockatoo, or any of the other bird names that are being floated, are pretty unique in the AFL landscape.

I get it. Purely looking at a map, NQ and the NT look like they put some serious dots on the map. Those suggestions just come from people who haven't looked into the numbers (which is fair, not everyone is as nerdy as us bigfooty folks).

I know, it was only an ever-so-slightly serious suggestion. I reckon it could be done if it were completely realigned (so the current length becomes the width) and it's pushed long back beyond the hill, but it's still obviously incredibly unlikely.

The captains were asked their preferred locations for a 20th AFL team. They're not the behind-the-scenes types, so I didn't expect deep answers, but the answers were overwhelmingly for the NT, with a couple for WA and NQ. Jack Steele came the closest to supporting Canberra: "I feel like the...

Four days a week is different as each round still ends the same. When it comes to Monday, it's all even footing again. Round zero will be a good experiment to see how the difference is taken. Hopefully it's just a once off. In 2022, we got four games with our current stadium. What would the...

19 is not perfect. I know you disagree, but having different "games played" on the ladder throughout the season is unpopular. And three games is not enough for Canberra.

Interesting, didn't realise the club was that old, but yeah, 1903, before the NSWRL even started in 1908. Very cool. Would be icing on the cake if they redeveloped North Sydney Oval as their base.
