I know it's weird posting something from the Gold Coast website but it's the only spot I could find a 2015 Draft Trumps video on Weid.

If you look at Sam Weideman's stats in 2022 - they are almost identical to Harrison Jones..!!

Jones - total games - 10, ave disposals - 7.6, marks - 2.8, goals - 1.3, tackles - 1.4
Weideman - total games - 10, ave disposals - 8.3, marks - 2.8, goals - 1.3, tackles - 1.4

Not a bad thing if we have 2 almost identical players - I'd like to see them both pinch hit in the ruck also....

Would have been handy last year to take the pressure off Jones who needed time in the VFL IMO.

Depending on matchups, could play both & have Langers play more wing/HF

Tweaked his quad
RECRUIT SUFFERS SETBACK
Recruit Sam Weideman has had a minor setback in his preparations for the coming season after tweaking a quad.
The former Melbourne key forward was on light duties at training on Friday, jogging some laps for a large portion of the session.
The Bombers are hopeful that Weideman can play a significant role in their attack as a second tall option alongside Peter Wright this year.
He is expected to be fit to return to main training after players enjoy a five-day long weekend starting on Australia Day.

If he's back to jogging laps within a couple of days it must have been pretty mild. Be nice to have a few KPF options competing for a spot alongside Wright & Stringer.
Yeah, I actually think he'll make a positive difference to our forward line, despite most being non-plussed by his addition.

Well with Wright potentially being injured, having a mature tall body to go down there will be important
Obviousily an issue during season if all HJ, 2MP, Weid all injured at same time

Baldwin would be playing and maybe even then Reid as a try out KPF or play 2 rucks

Hopefully not in season proper

We were very fortunate last year that Wright stayed fit and healthy all year, ideally Jones / Baldwin / Weideman / Reid* / Cox* could all be potential future options to give him a chop out and/or cover for any injuries.

Hes a good pickup. Cost nothing

Probably puts some much needed pressure on a guy like HJ, aswell as providing depth and also allowing us the flexability to play all 3 tall forwards plus Draper as a different look

We are now building up multiple (AFL ready) options for many positions, esp down the spine. In a year or two small forward spots will be under pressure too.

There’s no way Weideman moved to us without guarantees of senior selection. If 3 Litre Pura Light Start Peter is fit he Will be in Round 1 and will be HJ fighting for a spot IMO.

That's OK. Jones, Cox and Reid should be playing VFL in 2023 with the occasional senior game. Give them a chance to hit the gym and bulk up for the future.

Agreed, I do hope Weid breaks out and has a ripper year but ideally it plays out that way

I know he was in essence a freebie and probably necessary just to meet the cap floor but I just don’t get the point of him.

Conceptually, I don’t understand
Agree. Probably a Hail Mary, chance he does a Peter Wright-Will Brodie for little cost. But hope he doesn’t deprive Jones, Baldwin, Bryan and Voss who are all fit and ready for a chance

Agreed.

I suppose the faith in Voss and Jones wavered.

I'm still quite bitter about Eyre too.

I was confident Wright could make it because he has the tools. I'm not convinced Weidemann has the tools that support him taking one minute of time Jones and Voss are ready for.

And that's where he fits in, I suppose, as the mature fodder to hold things together if we get some injuries.

I thought he was supposed to do second ruck/fwd so Wright can spend more time in the forward line. Which means he’s the one to beat for Bryan and Phillips if they want a spot.

Bryan is still building, would hope he starts getting semi-regular games toward the back end of this year but he should be #1 ruck in the 2s, and really honing his forward craft swapping with Phillips so he’s not completely useless after the ball is bounced.

Between Wright, Weideman, Voss, Jones and Stringer we should have 2-3 of them available with their habit of getting injured. The rest of the forward line should be smalls and a rotating mid.

Baldwin seems to be playing in defence which makes sense when you consider that Cox, Reid and Stewart are currently injured. Weideman might end up in defence too if we get any more injuries there, atm Laverde and BZT are holding down key posts which is not ideal and I don’t think we want Ridley tied to that role either.

I think what Weideman is at the very least is a plug and play mature body that gives us rotations and cover at both ends and can also teach the young guys a bit. If he ends up winning the Crichton then so much the better.

It would certainly seem so, at the very least hes proper KP height and has a defined position so we're not trying to reinvent the wheel here.

He ran right into Wright's leading lane a couple of times yesterday, hopefully that's not a sign of things to come.
