Whoops, yesterday. Didn't look in any discomfort. Big test will be tomorrowDid they have training today? Article says main training is tomorrow
He'll get smashed. Will be good to see how he goes as the second ruck option.
I’d be giving him most of this season to find out if he can show something as a forward. But I agree with you, never been a huge fan due his lack of competitiveness and he’s got poor hands. As clear as day, he is not competitive enough to play the forward/second ruck role. He never was with Melbourne, he isn’t now. He’ll tease occasionally (see round 1) but he just doesn’t have the appetite for it.
That said, surely we trial him in defence? I’d be dropping him to VFL and making that switch ASAP. Has size that only Stewart can match on our list amongst other KD prospects.
There is a reason why the Dees never gave him that extended opportunity.I don't know if he will make it or not, but I want to see Weids have a good 3 month uninterrupted block at football which he didn't get at the Dees and so far hasn't got at Essendon
Gerard Healy is very stupid, so I wouldn't pay any attention to him.Anybody find Healy's comments regarding the concussion a bit *ed up, like it was Weideman's fault.
Totally agree, would love to see him tried down back where he's not leading at the ball carrier, he tends to run under the ball a bit. There is a reason why the Dees never gave him that extended opportunity.
Variable output is one thing, variable effort/physicality/competitiveness is another and that’s been his his issue for years now. His disappearing act v. Saints suggests it’s not resolved.
He’s not an AFL level forward - let’s cut our losses now and try him in defence at VFL for a few weeks. I will be completely unsurprised if he then emerges as a competent key defender (and we need one with his size).

Maybe he'd be more suited to reading the ball in flight rather than on a lead a bit like Hurley when he played forward.
He's even less equipped to be a defender. But may as well give it a try. There is a reason why the Dees never gave him that extended opportunity.

YesDoes he have to automatically miss next week with the concussion rule..?
Cheers

Both Scott and Mahoney seemed to rule him out post match, but it remains slightly possible that the medical staff had not given them all the info… albeit unlikelyThat's if he failed the concussion test and it wasn't just precautionary which some teams have done before.

I’ve absolutely no idea how those tests and rules work. I think we’ll rest him this week, almost certainly.
The diagnosis of a concussion is a clinical judgment, made by a medical professional. The SCAT5 should NOT be used by itself to make, or exclude, the diagnosis of concussion. An athlete may have a concussion even if their SCAT5 is “normal”
SCORING ON THE SCAT5 SHOULD NOT BE USED AS A STAND-ALONE METHOD TO DIAGNOSE CONCUSSION, MEASURE RECOVERY OR MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT AN ATHLETE’S READINESS TO RETURN TO COMPETITION AFTER CONCUSSION.
Essendon could be buoyed by the potential return of key forward Sam Weidemanfor Tuesday's Anzac Day clash with Collingwood.PLAYERCARDSTART10Sam Weideman

The key forward has been cleared of any symptoms following a nasty concussion sustained in Essendon's round four fixture against GWS.
GM of Performance Daniel McPherson says Weideman is looming to be available for selection this week.
"Sam's been cleared of any concussion symptoms," McPherson said.
"He'll train fully this week and will be available for selection provided he gets through the week with no issues."
