Ha.

My surname translates to (roughly) "Grove/place/house of Hawthorn(e)" in my ancestral language.

My brother and I were over the moon when he found out (he is living over there)...we knew it meant 'place of the thornbush' or something, but some old woman over there told him, it's the brown and white one, the English call Hawthorne...

Seemed appropriate given the day. Don't count the talons too closely as the AI's stuff up animal digits same as humans. Now if there are some nice older ladies who are free of the weekend.....

We’ve gone off on a tangent but if anyone is looking to move to a Hawthorn or Hawk suburb here is a start for you.

Back to the video in OP- what do you all think?
Hawks Farm in Boneo is a nice place to drop into if you are in the neighbourhood. Mornington peninsula!

I have been quite dismayed by the amount of businesses that publicly and actively discriminate against us hawthorn supporters.

"No Hawkers"

I am a door to door salesman and I am so disgusted by these businesses that I refuse to go in.

I did once by accident, they asked me to leave and pointed at the sign.

No lie, when I was a kid we went to our local Hairdresser. Stopped Mum in her tracks before we entered and said we aren't allowed in here Mum. She was very confused. I had noticed the sign and really thought they just hated the Hawks as much as I hated Essendon.

My primary school was on Hawthorn Rd

My family settled in Melbourne from OS when I was five. We lived in Hawthorn, which is why my brother and I supported the Hawks. My mother said she and my old man were tossing up between a house in Hawthorn or a place in..... St.Kilda! Sometimes late at night I can still hear the whistle of that bullet whining past my head and I can't get back to sleep.

St Kilda (current crime aside) would be a great spot to live. As for barracking for the Saints, consider yourself fortunate to win the brown and gold lotto!

This calls for its own thread of “No Hawkers” photos. Bonus marks for premises in Essendon (double bonus for pharmacies) and Geelong.

I was 18 when I saw the same sign in a Melbourne shop and thought it meant the same thing. It was just after the 2008 Grand Final, so I assumed the shop owners were Geelong supporters.

Also, I grew up on Hodge St.
