Player Watch #11: Luke "Two Dogs" McDonald (Part II) - Steps down from Co-Captaincy for 2025

As raised by Kingy on the means test this morning, if you refuse to drop him, send him to do a tagging role.

If he could keep Day quiet this week, he’d actually contribute to us winning the game.

Could be the circuit breaker he needs.

Alternative is he is involved in the oppo scoring 5 goals from his involvements and Day is allowed to run around and get 30 again.

Was that after he'd run out.of defensive 50 and delivered a six metre kick which caused a turnover, or am I thinking of a different but of play?
It might not have been that exact play, but with LMac you know it probably happened on many occasions throughout the day LOL

He has the footy IQ of an U/10 Auskicker.

Get ball panic and kick long to the opposition is his favourite play.

I actually watched a piece of play where he leaves his man in the 50 and starts running forward before the contest and sure enough Geelong chop it over the top and easy goal.

The sad thing the other clowns we have down there do the same thing. But this guy is meant to be an onfield leader and keeps doing this dumb shit.

Has King outed Luke as a non-performer?

He caused many turnovers yesterday but the one I’m referring to was the 50m penalty he gave away

Yeah I just recall him causing a turnover with a weird little kick coming out of defence, and it turned over and was marked by Close inside 50. Thought he may have then given away the 50 on that possession.

Anyway, it's very evident the issue with Luke isn't effort or courage, it's footy IQ. He just doesn't have it.

Trying to be balanced. Just watched second half. In Q3 he takes a kick out, does that hand thing - come at me - no pressure. Lopes along. Lazy kick. Marked by geelong at 50. He never kicks to advantage. Ever. Ccj - i think - told him to kick it higher. They know.
Later Butchers that kick in middle - on his left - turnover. Goal. Takes a handball from ldu - tackled. Coughs it up so easily. Turnover. Goal. Misses tackle on tuohy in q4 inside 50 but someone else cleaned it up. Not mentioning the 50 that could have been unlucky - he did later take a contested mark and spun out of trouble. But the bad >>> any good Atm. Its a huge concern - hes going as badly as anyone in the 22 and its not just this week. Its hard to set standards and make statement droppings and keep tolerating this. The thing i really cant cop is him sheep dogging ang taking kickouts and then butchering it. He has made some hellish errors by foot this year. It hasnt changed in 10 years.
I hate seeing this so much

Logue injury probably saves LMacs spot this week.
At this point I would be giving anyone from the VFL team even Kallan at this point but its unlikely and Luke will keep his spot.

An extremely unfortunate injury. Logue out keeping Luke in.

Didn't he play on Rankine a few weeks ago?

That wasn't pretty

If you watched the game you’d have seen that Luke wasn’t actually on him for any of his goals and it was in fact Scott McMahon’s fault.

It was evident at the ground that Luke played as an extra back as much as he could yesterday. The 6 6 6 rule means he mans up initially but then we looked for the opportunity to drop an extra player back. They would in turn then take Luke's player. It was tragic. They had Tom Stewart as the extra, we had Luke. I took this move as NM coaches wanting Luke to appear 'improved' by getting easy possession. Or didn't want him to be seen being burnt by a direct opponent. A pretty sad state of affairs if this was the case. I really can't see how it would have been engineered with the teams best interests in mind.

I think Christopher Skase was on Rankine that game brother

Most of his best games for us have been where he's freed up and used as a loose, intercept defender.

And there in lies the major problem we have, it shouldnt. We need to make a statement.
Bonar and or Dawson should get a crack regardless. For no other reason than the rest of team knows that dishing out that cr@p just isnt good enough, captain or not

Weird move for someone who, in the gaps between daydreams, can be intense 1-1 but has the vision of Ray Charles and hits targets like a stormtrooper.

So what you mean is "No he wasn't playing on whoever when all those goals were kicked."

and this is what the players voted for when Jack stepped down as captain

I was happy for Jy getting the nod but not so much Luke.

Luke to his credit got out of that faze of turning the ball over, trying to take on too many tackles........he became a solid player (b'n'f was a covid fluke) and criticism died down.

It seems now his gone back to his old ways.
