So how did the Saint's go, considering Jon Ralph et al were sprouting the line they have million's and million's in their quest to attract new talent ?

$59m in revenue.

$6.5m in debt.

$50m in assets.

60,000 members.

Not everything is about blowing your load on a book recorded profit/loss which can easily be manipulated.

Their debt needs to get paid down, but they +$30m in assets and +10% in revenue.

Reasonable point but we are debt free, have a decent facility despite having won a total of 9 games in 3 years or some horror number.

I think it's a decent result considering how poor we have been and you would assume that as we climb the ladder Memberships and gate numbers will rise with it.

Saints have been half decent for a while now without threatening for silverware.

Yeh be careful with the Schadenfreude here.

We exist through a mix of very creative solutions and a small but passionate base.

Not sure we have the platform to fling shit from.
agreed, I'm interested in our own financial health without passing comment on others.

On which topic, it seems to me that given the lack of success in the men's program, the administrators of various regimes over the last 10 years have done remarkably well (for the reasons you allude to)

We runs things very tight financially and you can see the effects on less media output, less experimental recruiting (Cat B, NGA etf). So there is a price but I agree with it - try to win but make sure you keep the lights on.

We saw where reckless management almost landed us in 2007.

Win games of footy. That's what matters most. In that case, profits will follow.
Yes correct win games of Football and you be hoping the Token Gesture supporters and their bottom feeding mates join as members as long as the Dire in the wool supporters who kept their supporting this club going in good and bad times are not treated like 💩.
It would be good to get crowds that consist of at least %80 to %90 North people instead of a %40 to %50 of North people THAT attend atm and relying on other supporters to make up the numbers.

A supporter is a supporter. If we start winning games and they choose to sign up as a member, that's awesome! But like you say, they should still go to the back of the queue.

So you've been to all the clubs and seen their facilities. Wow can you let us know how you came to this opinion

The facilities stuff is a merry go round that evolves year on year.

Whilst we are nowhere near what we were in the 90's, natural improvement of others mean we are probably in the bottom few Melbourne clubs/comp wide clubs now. Doesn't mean our facilities are poor, just means others have an advantage in this space.

It needs to continually evolve to keep up.

The Dogs have $110m in assets, a lot of which are built into Whitten Oval as an example and they are considered the other "small" Melbourne club along with North and the Saints.

The club clearly dead last in the comp are Melbourne. Their facilities are probably comparatively like ours in 90's compared to modern standards, have no real home base etc, regularly commented by players. They train between Cranbourne and Richmond...Hawthorn after them, but Dingley is under construction.

Essendon, Collingwood, Geelong, Carlton, Dogs, St Kilda all dwarf ours, most with large indoor training centers etc. We have some basketball courts co-tenanted with the general public. Richmond is undergoing another redevelopment at the moment, Hawthorn's Dingley complex will be worth 5-6x what Arden St's funding was.

His point wasn't an unreasonable one, just exaggerated. No way are we behind Melbourne.

In terms of interstate. Have you seen the West Coast, Fremantle, Alberton and Adelaide training complexes? Sydney, GWS, Gold Coast and Brisbane all have new state of the art facilities.

Weve slipped down the order. Clubs like Brisbane, Sydney, Hawthorn and Melbourne have leapt us with new facilities and Adelaide about to open a new state of the art centre, dogs with an 80million dollar build upcoming. We are down the bottom end once again. When did we build ours? 6 years ago? Time moves fast in this caper. What was once considered a rather “equal” facility is quickly turning into a below average one fast

they opened their new one in Feb24. Their high performance centre. I think you’ll find it pretty damn good.

“the ribbon on the Thurin High Performance Centre at Casey Fields, unveiling a state-of-the-art facility featuring pristine gym, aquatic and indoor kicking areas”

It's not.

It's why they want to build their permanent $50m+ home base at Caulfield Racecourse's redevelopment.

It's why (in my opinion), the whole Arden Precinct master plan and North supporters blowing their load is really through rose (or blue and white) coloured glasses stuff. When was it first announced, 5-6 years ago?

Whilst we might benefit, it's first and foremost an initiative for the general public and publicly accessible greenspace and recreation areas.

It's not designed as a private space for a high performance professional sporting team, which is what we will quickly require to compete with other clubs. Yes we might get another small building or some change rooms or a scoreboard, or some covered seating. But it doesnt move the needle compared to our rivals. The second oval was always a public oval, people thinking it was a private training oval with one being the MCG or Etihad was always laughable.

This will a knock on effect for recruitment etc, which we are already at a disadvantage with...

I think the club would be best served trying to bin their involvement with the master plan as a public use space (like it currently is) and try and leverage off the strength of the AFLW side, and lobby for an oval upgrade with grandstands, amenities, high performance additions that can still serve public use (by attending games) for womens sports (Like the Bulldogs and Carlton have secured). Which by extension benefits the mens side.

The supporting argument is there's now a multi billion dollar train station ready to serve an oval upgrade like that just nearby for people wanting to attend.

I don't want to leave Arden St, ever. However some people have to realise that there's actually a major risk and downside to this Arden Precinct plan. If the area is developed for open public use like planned. There's a possibility the club effectively gets built out of any further expansion of it's facilities and it's approaching a period where will need more facility upgrades over the next 10-15 years.
