Essendon prime movers having injury-hit careers in their prime... It’s been happening since Neale Daniher in ‘81. Hopefully this recurring shit for Ridley won’t deny him of another clear run at it this year.

How many peak years has injury robbed us of over the years? -

N Daniher - a ten year career lost
P Salmon - 1.5 seasons lost at his peak
T. Watson - 2 seasons when close to best player in the comp.
P. Vander Haar - could barely get on the park for 3 or 4 seasons at his peak
M. Harvey - 5 years blighted by bulimia and a leg broken 3 times
M. Long - 4 years out of 5 ruined after winning a N/S
J. Hird - 3 years ruined after a Brownlow win.
D. Bewick - ACL during his peak years
D. Rioli - multiple years injury affected
M. Mercuri - groin and knee hampered him after the age of 28 - many years lost at his peak.
D. Solomon - ACL after 2 GF appearances.
A. Ramanauskas - looked a star in the making before his neck tumor ruined his career.
J. Winderlich - at least 5 years of interruption with his back issues after breaking out.
M. Lloyd - lost a full season at his peak with big hammy which also cost us a few years of his best in his twilight.
D. Hille - ACL just as he begins to really announce himself.

I know other teams suffer their injuries but looking at that list it feels like we’ve suffered more than others for losing key players at their peak

We need Riddler to avoid missing chunks of seasons because he is such an important prime mover.

Here’s my Tribute XVIII to the lost years;

Solomon Reid (Ridley)
Harvey Vander Haar N Daniher
Long Rioli Ramanauskas
Mercuri Gumby Winderlich
Salmon Lloyd Bewick
Hille Watson Hird

Ive probably missed someone.

Injured at almost same time of year as last year and I believe the year before?

Obviously he's seen the specialist and they would have looked at his mechanics and gait etc with a focus on the quad.
Wonder if they found something and then he's gone and done a heap of work on trying to correct the issue that's then led to this issue, (thinking being if it's a loading issue they may not have accounted for in his build up this season).

A real concern and just a reminder that when we are discussing the list and what we have on it, you can't possibly include these types of guys when being realistic and talking about what we actually have.
If Reid and Ridley put together sustained elite (and I include being actually available in that metric) football it will be the first time.

Joe Daniher at CHF given his final years with us were cruelled through his groin injury (and subsequently him not giving a shit).

[/QUOTERoger Merrett. We couldn’t get him on the park with his elbow and I think ankle injuries. He went to Brisbane and played 160 odd games. More than he played with us. Just shows our medical and conditioning has never been much chop. Apart from the early Quinn years we’ve been ordinary in this part of the game.

The last player we need to lose to soft tissue injuries again and I hate that it gives Kane Cornes ammo hah!

He either reinjures it and misses 10 or Essendon 3 week injury is really 10 and they're playing funny buggers.
