Pathetic. His effort or lack there of in the last when he and Dusty ended up giving away the free kick sums up his game perfectly. Would rather wait and sit on his opponent then attack it and win the ball himself. Aarts put him to shame.

Thought he was putrid today. One of the worst games he has played for us. Lazy, slow, soft, disinterested, no impact whatsoever. Piss him off.
Bolton must be pissed how this guy is continually favoured above him.

Thought he was a bit better than usual today.

If that is Boltons attitude, then good thing he is dropped.

This was just his standard game. Could actually amount a case of an improved game seeing as he hit the scoreboard which is rare for him.

In all seriousness the standard that he continually is allowed to get away with is sickening. He got dropped last year and played an average game in the VFL but got recalled due to dreamtime. Gets dropped last week and seemingly has an average game given the match report sounded much like our younger less performed players and yet gets recalled again. Meanwhile Butler is performing for St.Kilda, Bolton has been one our best players and is inexplicably dropped and a player like Aarts comes in and completely shows him up.

Mind boggling

I back the coaches tbh

We don't and will never know their every reasoning for every decision.

But there will always be one. Coaches, especially premiership coaches don't play favourites.

This is stupid logic. All coaches play favourites and especially premiership coaches. Rioli just so happened to live with Hardwick for a good 12 months.

Welcome back Groupie.
Seriously though, I won't be defending Rioli's recent output though and I have defended him in the past.
Straight swap IN Bolton OUT Rioli please.

So did Stack and he was dropped.

Anyway, talk is Bolton was managed/rested.

Stack has shown a lot more in his first 20 games than Rioli has entire career. Even against Hawthorn when Stack was terrible in the first half he finished strong and was one of the better players in the second half. He then played a terrible game against the Saints akin to that of most of Rioli throughout his career and was dropped. Stack doesn't have the same relationship with the Hardwick family that Rioli has and spent less time living there.

Yet he played in the scratch match. Talk of being rested in shortened quarters and having 7 days off between our games so far doesn't commute with me.

Rioli is a shadow of the player he was prior to breaking his foot in the 2017 GF.

i dont know how long we persist with Rioli and geroge.
one dimension players. when we play stronger teams they get found out.
Shai being dropped is laughable. seirously coaching staff???

Stack/Bolton have shown a lot more flashiness than Rioli and I think a lot of supporters look for that instead of work rate/work off the ball.

Coaches don't care about how flashy a player is, they look for other things. That is why Rioli gets picked over Bolton.

ps, not saying I nessecarily agree with Bolton being dropped for Rioli, I am just giving probable reasons w hy.

He’s the same player he was now as he was in 2017. That’s the problem.

He legit had a good prelim and 24 other games exactly like today’s game. He just had more excuses (quite rightly) for poor performances in 2017 because he was in his 2nd year.

You do realise the AFL app has this data and rarely does Rioli feature in the top achievers which for a guy with his pace and endurance is laughable. For comparisons sake Jack Graham who is comfortably our hardest working player and sacrifices more of his game than anyone else regularly features high in the running stats and yet he has been dropped more often than Rioli. One plays HF the other as a small forward and yet who is dropped more often than the other despite actually being a midfielder and rarely given an opportunity to run through there.

Another example is Butler who don't get me wrong was poor last year yet in the first half of the season he was the only small forward whos pressure rating was higher than the previous year and this year he is no.1 in the comp. Despite Butler doing the things the coaches wanted last season he was still dropped. Rioli minus one half vs GWS in r3 was just as poor as Butler in the first half of last season but wasn't providing the pressure that he had set as his standard and yet was dropped for one week where in that VFL game Butler outperformed him and yet Rioli returned to the side and didn't lose his spot for the rest of the year.

I thought Rioli showed a few good signs in the first quarter.
Unfortunately my beer intake means I get increasingly vague as the match goes on so I can't comment on his full game.

I thought he was out injured after qtr time, didn’t notice him till the last 5-10 mins when he started touching it a few times again.
