I wonder if the 2017 development mantra for him just to tackle, chase and pressure has worn off. He's never been challenged to win the ball, kick goals and use his endurance and footskills to do more.

If he wants to improve as a player, he needs to go to the reserves and play a month on the wing. Regular games of 20+ disposals should be his KPI. We need to start expecting more from our players than just tackling and harassing. That's not going to keep holding up if that's all he and Castagna do.

The 2017 one tall 5 pressure smalls gameplan is over, its time to evolve those players.

Dimma gives this guy way too much of a free pass wins no ball at all and then the whole pressure and tackles thing at times is overblown

Had 6 disposals 0 tackles and 13 pressure acts compare that to Higgins 19 disposals 3 tackles 21 pressure acts

Probably has suffered the most out of the boys due to the lack of contact and time with the boys, that and the fact that he broke up with his mrs, and covidmeans it is hard to get another means he is horribly out of form.

For these reasons we should back him, but having said that i expect him to be dropped

hold on....we still going to have 300 people on this forum telling me how good he is?.
I've been saying for two years. he needs to spend time in the twos because he is nowhere near AFL standard - this has been for a very long time.

Was getting a free ride because of the pressure he brought which I always thought wasn't a complete toolkit for a professional AFL player. 1 tackle in the last two games and close to zero impact. Nowhere to hide now.

You compare Dan's intent compared to Aart's and it's chalk & cheese.
It's almost like he plays knowing he'll get another crack the following week after a sub-par performance.

Spot on. No stress or threat of demotion (except for when he was dropped recently). like nsw cricketers, spot is theirs forever.

I love Rioli but even I have to admit, based on what we could see on our TV screens yesterday, he was really poor. He would have to be omitted next week, but there is not a like for like replacement as a small forward. Stack is clearly not going well at present, he would of course be one option. But maybe it is time to beef the midfield up with a Collier-Dawkins or Dow, and get some more forward time from Higgins or Bolton or even Graham.

I wonder if something is going on in his personal life. He just seems so out of sorts. Unfortunate, really.

To be honest, I reckon hes been all over the shop since mid last year, Mia leaving him, WIllie getting rolled by ASADA, ISO.... I don't think he has coped with it at all...

Even doing the 44 symbol on GF day was out of place IMO!

worst example was, on the lead, great kick to him, but basically stopped to a walk a and defended closed it down in a heartbeat...

Just to relaxed!
Call it what you like. He squibbed it. Pulled out of the contest as he thought he'd get crunched.
