Won the World Test Championship, World Cup, World T20, held the Ashes for 8 years and been world no.1 Test nation for god knows how long. Been a great era. Not 90s/2000 great, not near that, but a great era, nonetheless. At our top we had Marus and Smith averaging in the 60s, Warner in form, Ussie on fire vas an opener and 4 bowlers at the top of their game. Now they are struggling with age. Stood out last year but we got away with it.

This era started on the back of the big purge after that SA disaster in Hobart in 2016. We made 5 changes, refreshed the side and never looked back, until now, where we now need another refresh with another 5 changes before the series gets away from us.
I wouldn't say that game started a new era.

Those 5 changes we made after that loss were Renshaw, Handscomb, Wade, Maddinson and Bird.

Neither of them were still in the test team 13 months later when we beat England in Perth to wrap up the ashes in 17/18

Some serious thinking to be done by the Aussies.

How we can steam in for near 2 days and barely threaten the stumps when India has wrecked our first (and now our second) innings by bowling to hit the stumps is something else. Cummins map would be something to behold, I doubt he had more than a handful of balls that could have hit the woodwork. Woeful.

Cummins coming out as nightwatchman was a total joke. Just put the exclamation point on how the Indians have cooked us mentally in 3 days.

I see the old racist line "he's brown, so he must be a chucker" is alive & well.

No wonder opposition fans dislike aus fans.

Mate of mine went to town on Facebook tonight so I sent him a link to a pretty basic scientific explanation of why it’s perfectly legal by any definition.

His response was ‘so can people just get an operation to be able to have double jointed elbows and be able to hyper extend?’

I said no.

And he said ‘well as far as I’m concerned it’s illegal then and he should be banned. If others can’t bowl like that it’s unfair.’

I was born in 89 - this and the 2010 ashes is the worst we have looked in my time.

The sad things is that there doesn’t seem like great batting talent coming through. Things turn around pretty quickly though McSweeny will be ok, Green and Head give us something to build around. The best thing the selectors can do is drop Marnus - all the great/good players have been dropped he needs a spell; he has had a blessed run but the selectors need to drop out of form players and stop holding onto the past. No idea who is performing at Shield level to deserve that place though.

All of this said - the Smith/Cummins era has been pretty good not as good was the Taylor/Waugh/Ponting era but i doubt anything will ever be as good as that when we had generational players like Warne, McGrath, Ponting, Gilly, Waugh and Martyn; this group has been pretty amazing to watch.

This definitely has that 2010 era stink to it.

Doubt we ever see a team with the kind of talent and dominance the 90s/2000s team had again. We were lucky to witness that many freaks assembled together at the same time.

That’s not correct at all

Yes it is. I’m not sure how many times this has to be regurgitated, but it is absolutely correct. During the furore over Muralitharan a biomechanical university study was conducted of more or less every international bowler in the world and only one, and I’ve said this more times now than I can count, Ramnaresh Sarwan, who was at best an occasional part timer, was found to be legal.

It’s not hard to look up if you don’t believe it.

LabusNoShame in burning yet another review. Is the sort of guy on the Titanic that would take a lift vest before the women and children. Selfish and not a team player and horribly out of form.

Those 8 byes in the one over should of of been added to Cummings bowling figures

We got a bit lucky, when you look back at it.

Steve Smith was never meant to be a batter, he turned into one and one of the best going around but that's where I feel we got lucky. Under Clarke I like most people was probably sitting there thinking "who is going to carry the torch for the next 10 years", then Steve Smith emerged alongside David Warner who made a name for himself in white ball. We're there again ladies and gents.

Warner's retired and Steve Smith won't be far away, Marnus is barely doing anything, Usman is nearly 40. Travis Head is probably the best thing we have going for life after Smith/Usman. Marnus will be one they are absolutely sweating on and I as a fan am hoping he can be that guy but it seems like most teams have him figured out.

We could be in for a lean patch, a real lean patch.

Watching live at the ground and there's not enough disdain for Carey's keeping, he was abysmal.
Just down the priority list...his keeping to anything down leg was abysmal. I'm sure we'll get to raging about it in due course. Our batting and bowling need a shit canning in detail first

yup I would seriously consider moving head to open Mcsweeney to three where he bats for SA...and inglis to 5

lets face it Head is struggling atm at 5 with the team 3 for f**k all every game

Be positive and tell him to be aggressive at the top we need some spark..head can provide it

inglis is in form 4 shield tons in his last 7 shield games ..marnus is cooked

Yep look it wasn’t my first option before the series but might be the least worst option and if Head comes off a few times could help.

We are missing that imposing figure at the top of the order, and in the field.. A bloke like Warner.

Warner was utterly cooked at the end.

Those reminiscing have short memories

May as well say we are missing a bloke like Hayden and Langer

Having made 61 and 62 in my last 2 innings opening for my club’s turf 2nd XI, I feel like I have a decent level of knowledge and experience (mild sarcasm) to add my thoughts on how bad McSweeny and Marnus’ dismissals were.

You know Bumrah has the ability to bowl vicious inswinger. Bat outside of your crease, open up your stance, drop the back lift, and grind it out.

Those 2 morons took guard like they were facing an under 12’s side and did not know what an inswinger was. Ridiculous.

Bring back Langer as coach and boot all the snowflakes who can’t handle his intensity

Yes bring back the coach that lost to India TWICE at home. He was a very average coach
