I know others may disagree but IMHO if there needs to be a scapegoat for this performance then I’d be axing Smith before Labuschagne.

Smith is older and we need to regenerate the team, his form has been as bad if not worse than Lab over the past 18-24 months, and he’s done the #4/opener/#4 shuffle which I think was all quite selfish and done primarily to preserve his place in the team.

He’ll always be a legend but the time has come.

Speaking of openers, is weird the selectors seem to not even consider it a specialist position for some time. Putting Finch in even though he'd never opened in FC, McSweeney in despite never opening in FC, putting Smith up there in a hail mary when he started struggling.

I don't think Harris is up to Test level, but he is an opener and I think would do a better job of at least seeing off the new ball even if he didn't make many runs ala Geoff Marsh, which should be a priority as opposed to just chucking anyone in without any regard to how opening in a Test is a specific skillset (unless you're pummeling a second tier attack).
