He’s the fourth fastest batsman in 147 years of test cricket to 1000 runs, is averaging 91, strikes fast enough (64) without being a slogger or anything remarkable and while naturally for a Sri Lankan he’s done his best work at home and in a series in Bangladesh, his only trip abroad saw him hit a century and two half-centuries in England in three tests.
As I said, ‘At some point.’ I don’t think the era of great test batsmen is at an end by any means.
It's a pretty outrageous record. Obviously 8 tests aren't enough to project a long term trend but averages 50+ vs two opponents and 100+ vs two others, 122 at home and 79 away.
