CARLTON recruit Elijah Hollands has copped a two-match ban and a $5000 suspended fine for a breach of the AFL's Illicit Drugs Policy.

Confirmed E Hollands will miss first two weeks of season.

Least surprising development ever. Can play pre-season matches for AFL/VFL before round 1.

Not sure where to post this (and probably already posted), but confirmed E Hollands will miss first two weeks of season.

Yes, but can he play the opening round, and then miss rounds one and two? 😂😂😂

First 3 really, 3rd round (round 2) is a bye for us

But assume he can play VFL that week, yes? So in effect, the bye could work out well for him. He misses the first two AFL matches. Plays round 3 in the VFL, and is ready to go round 4, which is our 3rd match.

When does the club start talking new contract with Elijah? He is only on a 1 year contract.
Good question, wonder if it was a one year with clauses for another two or something - seems to be a best 23 player for mine moving forward. Really like him.

The reporting at the time was the club offered 3 years but removed that offer when they found out about Elijah’s off field troubles. I have no doubt he will be here for years to come, just a matter of when they will lock him away.

It's interesting. A top 10 pick in his fourth year would probably be expected to perform like Elijah. However for someone picked up for a bag of chips, his performance has been fantastic.

It's funny how the cost colours of view of player performance.

For us Elijah has been wonderful. At Carlton he doesn't need to be the pointy end of the stick, he's just great for us doing what he's doing.

This is what we hoped for when we went after Elijah. Love having the brothers playing well together. Ejijah just knows where to go to make himself dangerous. 7 AFLCA coaches votes. He's going to become a top 10 player for us with a bullet.

Sorta player I could see having his best ever game on grand final day

He might have a touch of the Duigan's about him in that regard.

And just turned 22yo.

Great pick up by Austin - and together with Walshy and Cez, Elijah forms the backbone of the young midfield group into the future. As an aside, you can see the logic in drafting a player like Cooper Lord who'd bring grunt into that midfield group as our our aging warriors disappear into the sunset.

I think he's lifted his professionalism since joining the club. Sort of floated along with the Suns but since with us I think he's tried to get his head on straight.

Weiters mentioned it after the game, he really had to earn the trust of the group given his suspension and what it was for. In a roundabout way it might've been the best thing for him in that he had to come in and work hard just to earn some trust. He couldn't just come in and find his comfort spot, but rather had to show something, which could've helped.

He's definitely got what we need in the forward third; composure with ball in hand, skill on both feet and a player with natural attacking instincts - both in finding space for himself and knowing how to find teammates in space inside 50. He's showing his top 10 talent (Pick 7 despite not playing a game all season due to an ACL, pretty immense) and it makes me believe he's got another level or 2 to get to.

It was such a obvious, but smart pickup from Austin when you think about it. Talented junior struggling at interstate club, gets himself into trouble.

We have his brother, we have systems and people in place to help him. This is such a big club selection, whereby the culture we have in place is too strong for an individual to hurt. He either leans into it, or he disappears.

Strong Geelong type move from the Blues. Things like this signify our arrival as much as anything else.

Was always going to happen once off the gear…

Noticed he just seems so much stronger since the start of the year. Fumbles have disappeared too as the seasons rolled on but looking at his frame he seems solidly built compared to a bit of a pudgy sort of build I saw pre season.

Only going to keep building from here, his ball use by hand and feet is fantastic.

Great stuff by the club backing him in.

In fairness no Victorians played footy in 2020 so he didn't slide like Kemp because there was no data on the Victorian kids.
