I was all set to get Ablett in this week, but after that 76 I'm having second thoughts. Should I go Swan instead?

Or anyone else?

Can you wait a week or 2 and get Ablett?

It's risky because I might lose my head-to-heads, which are the most important thing to me.

I made trades last week to give me $297000 in the bank. Don't think I'll have any donuts but I could do with another premium to get me through.

Get Swan;

Ablett was figured out on the weekend; if he gets 29 disposals, he'll get you <100. If Swan get's 29, he'll get you 120>.

Ablett is not a DT god, a SC god, but not a DT god.

My only other option is trading Warren down to Ballantyne. I could then bring in Lockyer but I'm weary his scores may drop off in the second half of the year. It seems the safe option to do though. Would you agree with this?

Yeah that's a good choice too.

Thanks Chris.

Anyone else got a view on Ablett v Swan?

Hye guys.

Thinking of houlihan -> lockyer this week.
Should i hold onto houlihan or is he going to score low from now on? Any thoughts on people who still have him?

I posted a bit earlier but I didn't get a response so i'll try again :p

I've been thinking for a while that I should downgrade Collier in order to upgrade Hartlett to Rich, and now that Hartlett's injured, I was sure I was going to follow that path. However, I have Franklin as a forward and i'm not quite sure as to whether I should upgrade Franklin to SJ or Chapman with the cash earned by downgrading Hartlett to a rookie, or upgrade Hartlett to Rich and see if Franklin's price goes up in the next few weeks. I'm worried that Franklin's price might drop even more.

So, basically...

Out: H.Hartlett, T.Collier
In: D.Rich, L.Pratt

or

Out: L.Franklin, H.Harlett
In: S.Johnson/P.Chapman, D.Meyer

What are your thoughts on this?

Rich is great. He's been in my team since the start and I think I'll keep him. But at $311,000 or whatever I don't think he's any value at all. There are plenty of guys in that bracket who have been over the course before.

As for Franklin, it depends on how many trades you've got and who else you've got who is underperforming. I've got a few trades to spare but Houlihan as well so I've got plenty of candidates for the chop. I'm still hoping Buddy can turn it around.

If it's one or the other of the options you've givej I'd go Franklin and Hartlett -> Johnson/Chapman and Meyer.

Hodge is a proven premium, is capable of big scores. Has been ordinary this year because of little niggles, the break should have done the world of good. Also Ladson is due back shortly and will help the cause somewhat.

IMO Hodge doesnt have the fitness yet to play midfield this year. Just looks like he's still struggling a little.

Having said that at under $300K, i dont think you can go wrong. This could be 1 of the buys of the year and really determine your outcome.

If it fails, YR F#@*#D

Hodge is a proven player indeed, however, with his fitness being of main concern along with the way the Hawks are playing this season I would be looking elsewhere at this stage. If you already have him I'd keep him and see how he's going, however if you looking to bring in another premium defender than at this stage of the season you should be looking at drafting in durable and consistent performers as you getting low on trades. His proven history and price does make him an attractive proposition but I'd be playing safe at this stage of the season and look at other options such as Hargrave, Lockyer or Enright.

I'm in the same boat.

Houlihan's new role in the forward line has me very worried. Whilst he is great at juning it up, he can't do that in the forward line let alone the forward tag he played on Fisher last week.

If he can't score well against in Ess in a free flowing game, he is dead to me. Problem is if you are going to trade him it's now or never due to his high B/E.

I'm guessing I haven't helped. I wish he just gets dropped and that would make my decision an easy one.

Really tossing it up between Ellis and Hodge. Both players are seemingly injury prone and I have good cover.

Hodge is a proven gun and his scores will IMO return to somewhat near his best. Ellis however has the obvious upsides of averaging around 85 minus his injuries as well as playing more through the midfield. Ellis could though drop off at any stage and there is still doubt as to whether Hodge is fully fit. Also Hodge will probably be tagged most weeks and Ellis will not be at all.

Is a tough call IMO.

Me too. Looking at trading Geary out this week probably for one of these 2 and really don't know who to get. Hodge is cheaper and a real bargain at the moment but can he return to his best? Ellis has shown he can score well but can he keep it up? My other 8 backs are

Fisher, Lockyer, Mackie, Bock, C Cornes, Grimes, Broughton, Petrenko.

Ellis or Hodge will come in leaving Grimes or Broughton as my 7th back. Just don't know who to get. I have a very injury prone backline which is a worry.

Just had a look at it. I can also afford Gilbee. Uses up most of my cash but will not be making any more upgrades as I don't have enough trades. How much cash do you reckon you need to keep in the kitty for the rest of the season once you've finished your upgrades? This is my first year playing DT.

My backs are by far the worst on my list... I have...

Goddard, Adcock, Geary, Houlihan, Hodge, Grimes, Ellis (Suban, Cheney)

43k in the bank.

Tempted to trade Houlihan to maybe Burgoyne/Gilbee/Harding perhaps...

Its either that or wait for someone on my bench to rise a bit more to do a double trade. (Probably what I will end up doing...just putting my thoughts on paper)

Dude your back lines really no THAT bad. Youve got goddard adcock geary houlihan hodge and ellis who are all capable of pulling good scores. If i were you id probably hold onto grimes and wait for chad cornes to return. If he starts pulling good scores go houlihan or grimes to cornes. Depends how many trades you have left as well mate. If you havent got many it might be a good idea to hold fire and sit on the back line for a while. If youve got alot and not to many more upgrades to do then maybe consider it.

WIth that being said....is anyone getting rid of grimes this week? He must have a decent break even this week with average scores the last few weeks...?

Think his B/E is in the 30s from memory so still plenty of upside to Grimes yet I would think.

To make some cash for a midfield upgrade I need to trade one of my 2 bench players in the forwards.

Sidebottom or T Walker

Which of these two is the best one to keep for backup for the rest of the season.

I would prefer to keep them both and trade down a defender but I can't find a good rookie in the backs. Any suggestions there?

Pretty easy one mate, Walker is entrenched in the Crows forward line.
Sidebottom has been named on an extended bench every week for the last month. Has very little job securuity. Sure hes a much more consistent scorer than Walker, but Id take a 30 over a 0 any day.

Sidebottom is likely to be more consistent - when he plays. However his spot in the team is not nearly as safe as Walkers IMHO.

If you want to keep one as a fairly reliable back up for the rest of the season - I would suggest Walker.
