Always a bone of contention, but generally always a massive POD too.

Who you taking and why?

Include price & position please.

Me?

Varcoe. $285k. M/F.

He's MPP, guaranteed a starting spot if fully fit. Could breakout all the way to premium but at the very least, I reckon a $200k + cow.

Only Leuenberger for me. 301k.

Averaged just over 100 in 2011 playing every game before getting injured early in 2012, will be the number 1 ruckman for Brisbane and a potential premium.

Probably none, depending on whether the crop of rookies is good enough in the NAB Cup.

I just never like the look of my team with Varcoe in there. His mooted new role as a sweeper down back makes him a little more tempting but I just think there has to be a decent third forward rookie there somewhere for $150k less. Varcoe has to average over 85 to get you that $200k and you'd what him to be doing it from RD1 as well. A big ask for a player who has had a big stint on the sidelines.

A rookie, say Macaffer for example, only has to average just over 60 to get you that $200k and the $150k should definitely be able to get you an extra 20 points at least.

Just Leuey for me. The only midpricer going who has proven he can be a 100+ player.

All good points. But as I said, his JS will be much better than most rookies

True but is it worth the extra coin? $150k is a lot of cash. I think Staker and Lee are two for starters who JS is as good as Varcoe's. Maccafer could be the same and there has to be at least one or two others that can get 6-8 games in the first half of the year.

Agree with all those points. But as I said, he could become a premium/keeper as F7 as well. Macaffer will most likely make my team Rd1 as well but I can't see him staying there permanently. Staker will be in everyone's team as a cow.

The way Trav has been training he is well over his injury from last year and his new role off of the HBF should easily see him cover the 85 that he will need to score each week.

Staker is pretty much a lock for my side just for the fact that he is a link from FWD/BCK at only $115k can't really go wrong there

Other than those two none really stand out all that much to me

Enright has been the only cat who has covered the 85 mark from defence historically that i can think of (I could be wrong),,, he is still there and still a key user of the ball i presume, probably the general now scarlett has gone. Will the cats style change? normally as a team there onballers and half fwds have dominated there scoring? At varcoes price he creates interest but he would need to star in the nab for mind, also just remebered will caddy get some of the ball at half back?

Think Enright may play a lot more out of the back pocket this year playing the former Scarlett role of general and organising the defence than playing as his usual HBF role Think Travis has been earmarked for this so he can use his clean skills, speed and good endurance to set us up off of half back.
Caddy is a tough one to place ultimately he will be part of the midfield make up just not sure where he might come off of the bench an be part of the 2nd or 3rd midfield rotation but don't think he would be part of the back 6

Back:
Rivers, Longergan, Enright
Varcoe, Taylor, Mackie

Is how I see the Geelong backline lining up this year

Cheers - will be bizarre to see my side with no Enright if this is the case

Josh Hunt?

people have to remember that staker hasnt played for TWO years so will likely be sub bitch for at least the first couple of rounds but he does have excellent j/s but will be playing mostly forward so i dont think he will score very well

Lecca, JJ Kennedy and Varcoe is a risky mid priced forward line, but it could also pay dividends. I am seriously considering it

Waiting to see how LeCras goes in the Nab Cup, both fitness and position wise. Has proved he can score big numbers both kicking bags and when playing through the midfield. Still he's very pricey risk.

Leaving Varcoe out, scored over 100 four times in his entire career with a highest average of 82.6 in 2010. Fresh off a knee reco I just don't him making any better scores than a rookie, no value at $268,900.

J.Kennedy (WC) not getting mentioned at all, priced at $299,600 he looks very tempting. Question is though is it worth risking both him and LeCras at $369,200.

he has a friendly first half of the year

LeCras and JJK are both in my front six, Staker too. Tempted to swap Staker to Varcoe - I've got $53k left so there's room to shift.

The others I've got are Cam Pedersen and Luke Ball. Ball should easily jump to at least ~$450 and will play week-in, week-out. Pedersen on the other hand won't be in the backline - he's more than likely to play forward as part of a two-tall, then three-tall forward line with the Dees.

Also, I know he's just outside the OP's bracket but Hamish McIntosh. Will be first-choice at Geelong and barring injury will play all 22.
