I'm looking forward to this trade period, last year was just a big clusterf**k. This year I believe we will get players who will make a difference, not players who can't get games as it is now.

May I mention that last years draft we did amazingly, Terlich, Kent, Toumpas (who still will be a great player), M Jones, Clisby has shown that he can become a talented small backman, still unsure about Stark, haven't heard about him all that much, have a feeling he'll be delisted.

How can I seriously forget about our future captain Viney... I feel ashamed of myself!

So far so good with last year's draft, but let's not get carried away. We'd managed to get our list into such a bad state a one-legged bloke wouldn't be far off getting a game for us. Proof will be in the pudding in a few years' time.

Yep.

  • Toumpas is all potential right now, will want to improve next season.
  • Viney showed heaps, but a couple of injury concerns obviously a bit alarming.
  • Kent was good in parts, but he wasn't anything spectacular and seems to be pretty selfish on the ball.
  • Jones was a real warrior/workhorse, but when the team improves he'll have to start playing a bit smarter.
  • Terlich was really good off the HBF, hopefully it continues.
  • Saw nothing great in Clisby, but he'll get another year and deservedly so.
  • Stark unlucky to be injured the whole season, but those are the breaks and we'll surely replace him with another kid.

Spot on. Terlich and Viney were impressive, the others are either developing or keeping spots warm for the (hopefully) better players to come. We've got a fair number of depth players holding down spots in our best 22.

As Paul Roos said re Terlich, don't be fooled into a bloke who gets a lot of the ball then turns it over. In a pathetic team he looked good but in reality he's a B Grader. He may turn out ok, but we should be setting our sights higher. Time to start letting go of accepting mediocrity.

I agree with that, but we are so bereft of players who can actually get their hands on the ball that he deserves his spot (currently)

Doesn't bother me, having a B Grade role player isn't the end of the world!

I'd rather a B Grade role player with good skills though :)

What we need to hope Paul Roos can do is cease these two things from being mutually exclusive in our side. Imagine if we could put Dean Terlich's courage, endeavour, defensive pressure and ball-winning ability together with Strauss's running capacity, ability to break lines, kicking finesse and natural football brain? You'd have an ideal backman. All the things Strauss' is missing are choices, as opposed to God-given talents.

You tell Paul Roos to stay away from Shaun Atley.

Has anyone else heard we have been given the pp on condition we on-trade it? The strength of this particular source is not great or often correct?

I haven't heard but I do like the idea of it. The only issue with that is that if clubs know that we have to trade it they will offer a lot less, unless there is a bidding war erupts. Also likely we could end up trading with Essendon as they would like to get into the draft early.

I'll shot Paul a text and pass your message on.

Would this be a possibility at all? Have we approached Shaun? I haven't heard anything.

No, simply DoP big mouthing re Atley

Insinuating (as per JackAttack's prior post) that Atley has "Dean Terlich's courage, endeavour, defensive pressure and ball-winning ability together with Strauss's running capacity, ability to break lines, kicking finesse and natural football brain? I think its only Roosy and PJ sowing the seed. The 'independant' AFL commission will meet to decide this on 23 Sept.

I like this! I'm in love with the idea of drafting Aish and Scharenberg and would probably hold some resentment for the club if they 'stupidly' traded away a PP for what I considered to be cheap, even if it's the right thing to do, so this would placate that for me haha by taking the power to draft Scharenberg away from us.
