Howe is best 22 at Round 1.
Perhaps. Perhaps not.

I don't see him as any sort of 'lock' for best 22 at all.

He is a fringe best-22 player who did well when circumstances called upon him to play for an extended period in 2021. Fair play to him for that.
 
Combine it with telling him that he’s up trade and I think it might.
I suspect we will have 6-8 injuries most of the year and if he isn't one of them he's playing AFL. So we won't really know. I've got something coming up in a few weeks I'll see if I can get an inside view on this.
 
It might be a possibility that given that Sydney were very keen and couldn't get the cap space to take him that everyone agreed to a 12 month extension.

With a 12 month contract it lets teams like Sydney have another go at the end of 22 if they want him and he may be worth more if we still decide to let him go.
