He's been doing some PT sessions with McLeod for quite some time now, along with another small forward aboriginal kid who's name slips my mind, and a sprinter who's name I do not know.

Ive mentioned it before :)
thanks ....hadn't read that b4 :thumbsu:

Players tend to go 2 ways when in Griggs position, they either step up to the challenge or fall back into the pack never to be seen or heard from again. It's certainly a good start to see him dominating the runs.

Grigg has talent, the issue he has is that his pace is such that he can't forge a career as a specialist wingman/flanker. He needs to become a midfielder and to do that he needs to maximise his strength in endurance running and become a contested beast like a Scott Thompson or Luke Hodge.

He obviously has good skills, is a good decision maker, is generally clean with the footy and reads the play well. He really just needs to show dedication and commitment to the cause to round out his game.

At present, he needs to be looking to knock either a Scott Thompson or a Matt Crouch out of the side. Obviously a massive challenge, but if he wants his career to continue, that's where he has to be aiming.

I think Grigg our Sam Mitchell. Very good in close with elite disposal, however his pace is really not all that needed. Mitchell has a great first few steps but his top end speed isn't anything to write home about. I think Grigg has played a little too outside still in order to best suit his skill set. He really in great in contested situations with his ferocity and side step.

I always like to try and match up to Hawks, and the constant debate about our inside midfielders continues to rage on, I see it like this

Mitchell - Grigg
Hodge - Crouch
Shiels - BoB
Lewis - Sloane

Thats provided Thompson isn't in the side, and am unsure what to do with CEY at this stage even though I really want him in the side...

EDIT: I guess Hawks also role Langford through their midfield at times, but I think CEY needs to start having an impact at other areas of the ground and use his height and strength to rest up forward and provide a target if he's to find a role in our side.

One of Mitchell's great strengths is that he can basically be motionless and choose either leg to deliver off a step with precision. Mitch will basically only ever come close if he can always find his left. Also makes him more predictable. Mitchell is a super gun, with a mean streak and sharp knees.

Dont get me wrong, Mitchell is one of the champions of the game and criminally underrated by most still to this day. In no way am I saying Grigg will be as good as him. It's more so that Grigg's strengths suit a Mitchell role in a particular midfield set up similar to what the Hawks role with.

It's rumoured Hawthorn were trying to get M. Crouch to groom as a Mitchell replacement.

I'd say
Hodge - Sloane
Lewis - Brad Crouch

I've had this discussion with Sanders before, and people that compare Matt Crouch's game style to Mitchell's I just cannot comprehend. When I think of what Matt Crouch will turn out to be I think Matt Priddis. Sam Mitchell and Priddis could not be more different as midfielders if they tried. Crouch does not have an elite side step and evasiveness, he doesn't have a quick first 3-5 steps and he doesn't have elite disposal off either foot by any means. Mitchell is not a big, bullocking inside midfielder either.

If it's 530pm and you're late for the airport - Mitchell is who you want driving the car.

Is the sprinter Tjimarri Sanderson-Milera? Cam Yolo was in Ceduna with him for Oysterfest he is a young Aboriginal runner.

It was the Tom Lynch interview from yesterday ......10 minutes of my life lost

Difference between Melb/Sydney interviewing and Adelaide is a canyon apart
In fairness, they were meant to be interviewing Seedsman, but he was unavailable last minute, so they had Lynch instead.

But in general, you dont tend to take too much away from the player interviews these days, given how secretive/protective they are of internal club info.

Our club has stopped sending players into 5aa for interviews, but port hasn't. 2014 and before at least once a week a player would go into their studio and chat and take phone call questions but now all 5aa player interviews with 5aa are over the phone. Port players still go into the studio on occasion. I think the players get paid more to appear in the studio, maybe we just don't have any players that want the coin that badly, Kurt use to go in there most weeks.

How much more? Considering Petrol prices these days it might not be worth the drive.

Sure you have a point but it's slowly becoming habitual across the entire board.

Evaluate the post you are reading and then play that post. Don't worry about what's gone on before hand. And I don't mean you per se, I mean everyone/anyone who is reading this.

Fair enough comment.

Love the whistles from the other boys when it is mentioned about Gore's B&F standing from last year.

It's a pretty impressive thing, when you think back to Ablett's 2014, when he did his shoulder sportsbet had already paid out on him winning the brownlow and it was thought that he was so far ahead that he may still win it. In that season Ablett missed the same amount of games that Gore did in 2015 and Ablett came 4th in the suns B&F. Not saying Gore is Ablett by any stretch of the imagination as it's different leagues, but it gives AFL context to how good his season must have been.

Clincher for me was geelong moving to extend his initial contract so soon - he was clearly part of their plans

I saw a couple of his VFL games over here on 7Mate's coverage of the VFL and took particular notice with him being a SA boy, close to best on both times....think some are going to be pleasantly surprised with this kid's ability and I honestly believe he will push hard for a spot in the best 22 round 1.

anyone that comes to mind that he plays like?

we've obviously kept Thommo on for another year but I would be over the moon if between 2xCrouch, Sloane, CEY, Gore and Grigg we found ourselves not having to play him...

big step ups required, but hey, that's what these guys are playing footy for right.
