If y'all want to feel better about our drafting and development over the years, go look at Essendon's roast thread by MWNN. It's delicious.

Everyone is currently fawning over St.Kilda and Bulldogs and as much as they have in their favour, both teams are going to lose key personnel over the course of the next year, when they won't be in Premiership contention:

St.Kilda: Riewoldt, Montagna, Fisher, Gilbert, Ray................ A couple of those guys aren't easily replaced.
Bulldogs: Murphy, Boyd, Morris, Minson, Picken...................Again a couple of these guys will be hard to cover for.

I still see these teams as having to do quite a bit to get a good team balance but it's quite attainable.
I agree with Finey who said yesterday that Collingwood are best balanced.

Essendon, North and Richmond are very unbalanced as much as they've been touted as possible Premiers over the course of the last two years.

Good assessment. I'm not particularly excited by either team. Both may be regular finals aspirants in a few years, but will lose plenty in the next 2 years.

Agreed. Saints are still in a rough spot with Riewoldt in particular retiring soon.

Dogs aren't as bad, but they already have a young list with few senior players...take out those you just mentioned and they will have almost no senior players...will be interesting to see if the mid 20s players are ready to stand up and take the mantle. Of course, they could fix this age demographic issue by bringing in some free agents.

Collingwood, hate to say it, have done well and gotten good value out of trading Shaw, Thomas, Beams etc. Very young team but the youngsters are standing up.

Essendon and North are screwed with a whole bunch of 30+.

Don't think Richmond are unbalanced though, their stars are still young enough, with only Deledio getting on a bit.

I just feel that North's depth is better than Richmond's.........at this stage, anyway.
They're not performing well for now, but they did have Brown, Atley, McDonald, Turner, Wood, Black, Bastinac etc in the 2's
Even if they're not the best of players, I feel that they'll have better currency than for many Richmond players in the 2's
Things can change pretty quickly though.

Again, it seems that there will a huge turnover of players from many clubs which makes for some aggressive trading.

I think Fields boot would be handy against Hawthorn in a couple of weeks.

Now, now let's not get too cocky.

Love the monsters from Fields, but Watson usually did them too. Unfortunately that was the only thing he could do, according to many.

The blues would have to be on the end of them as best as they can.

Didn't know where to post this, is there a chance Tom Fields can be promoted to senior list. He has been in our VFL side bests almost every week and h has one hell of a left boot.

I don't think he's ready yet. He's been playing well but I think he's still getting used to the pace of it...I'd imagine that he'd be expected to play third tall back and that's a big ask at this stage in my opinion.

Great left leg though. WOOOOOOOOF.

Can you imagine the Dogs without Boyd, Morris and Murphy. They'd be stuffed.

Dogs haven't taken a backward step with the loss of Liberatore, Griffen, Higgins, Cooney. New players step up to fill the void.

Not sure what appeal Geelong would have now.

They are rebuilding as well.

We have been rebuild since 2011 , this year look particularly ordinary ..injury have accentuated it a bit but if we are to finish lower than we have for a while Id be happy to take the pick and use it. For mine LH would have been someone we look at when it suited all three parties to make it happen.. not the prefect fit for need imo.

Carlton won't pay overs for him, and we won't just give him away either.
Will certainly be interesting to watch us come the exchange period.

I cant remember the last time Geelong screwed someone on a deal , we nearly always play fair or perhaps to fair , much to the chagrin of many on our board. But if we finish so low to get a single figure draft pick , I struggle to see how can trade it , we have been starved on picks that low for so long. If we really fall away and finish with a pick lower than 7... that would be our lowest in 25 years.

The most reasonable deal I would say is IF Motlop goes to Pies or Tigs , trading that pick for LH. ..but to be honest even that pick id prefer to use. Henderson should be a FA , the rules are silly.

Carlton obviously have a rebuild plan and as much as I rate Henderson, if we aren't willing to play him in defence then he is a prime trade candidate. While he seems to be a good center half back he's not much of a forward. No real body strength, drops a lot of marks, is very easy to spoil, kicks bags against weak opposition but against good opposition and good defenders is often absent. Not the worse tall forward going around by far but not anywhere near the top. If his trade netted us a top young genuine forward then it's viable.

Hard to say how much more football Jamison and Rowe have in them. We need to find a better and younger defender than Rowe too if we're going to become a serious outfit. Perhaps this gives us a fair indication of what we'll be targeting, either that or we're showing a great deal of faith in Giles, Jaksch, Silvagni etc. Perhaps our opinion is that good tall defenders will be easier to come by than good tall forwards.
