Fairly good points about those bottom sides not having tall forwards. We'd probably have to finish bottom 2 or 3 if we are lucky to get a good tall do you think? I've heard Weitering is going pretty well as is Schache. All these bottom clubs you would think would be after the same thing. I just wonder if for example we can convince Jon Patton to leave we might have the trade power to grab him. Somehow we're going to have to pull two good tall marking forwards over the next couple of years. Doing it is the tricky thing. A lot of clubs who have have done it have done it with father son or early draft picks.

Yep, we need to go hard at the talls in this draft and the next. To be fair though, I reckon one solid key forward will be enough for a few years. Casboult is improving, and would be dynamite alongside a mobile leading forward in the mold of either of the Riewoldts, Kennedy, Cameron etc.

Hawthorn have shown that you can get away with one gun tall forward, a supporting forward/ruck, and some talented mid-size players. We've got plenty of half back types, and should be looking to convert a couple of those into mid/fwds. Am I right in recalling that Sheehan played forward back in Ireland? Maybe he could slot into the forward line for us next year?

Weitering this year, hopefully Jaksch and Fields come on before Jamo/Rowe fall away. Giles an outside chance.
Tall forward next year, plays alongside Casboult and some medium types (Everitt, Menzel, Sheehan...). Jones may have to do until this forward has a couple of pre-seasons. By the time Casboult is heading out, Ben Silvagni should be ready to go :D

Future talls:
Back - Weitering, Jaksch, Fields, Giles, SOSOS1
Ruck - Kreuzer, Wood, cheap rookie or traded option (Currie?)
Forward - Best tall of next years draft, Casboult, Jones, SOSOS2

If the backs work out well, Jaksch or Weitering could well move forward if they're able.

Would be silly to make such big decisions on players like Yarran before the new coach comes in.

As Yarran is contracted we really don't have to act on anything at all. Unless it's a good deal for us then Yarran stays at Carlton next year.

Since no-one else is going to give it a shot I will.....................and fail miserably, no doubt :)

Retired: Judd...Carrazzo = 2
Delisted or Traded cheaply: Warnock...Watson...Ellard...Armfield...Walsh = 5
Up for trade: One of Yarran or Henderson = 1
Try to trade but to fail........again: Walker = 0

Nett result = 7 off the main list and 1 off the rookie list.........Total of 8 players.

We'll get nothing for Ellard or Armfield but may get lucky for a 4th rounder for Watson or Warnock.................we'll take it......we may need it.
Yarran or Henderson will get us............let's average it out as a pick #15

So now we have #3...#15...#21...#39...#57...#65 and lets say a #66 for Warnock or Watson.

Pick #3 is held onto at all cost
Pick #15 may go for an Aish/Carlisle........dependent on what may show up then.
Pick #21 next best player.
Pick #39 Bailey Rice
Pick #57 Jack Silvagni
Pick #65 Left open whether it be for someone that's been left behind or we start pushing up the rookies.

Now the tricky part; Which rookies get pushed up that still allows us to keep our 38/6/(1/2) split that we like so much?
At this stage I feel we may have to force up at least two rookies onto the main list but then we bust our desired make-up.
Do we chance things with Giles now, trying to get him as a rookie?

One thing that I haven't taken into account though, is whether Dick is on a 1 or 2 year contract. This could change a lot of things.....It's not as easy as the past few years.

Just on Yarran, Something that i have been thinking about recently and we discussed his value with my carlton supporter friends and were actually thinking about what he has managed to achieve so far at Carlton and we were extremely suprised at what a dissapointment he was and compared him to (dont laugh) Richard Tambling

Yarran after 7 years at Carlton averages
115 games

10.55 kicks
3.92 handballs (14.47 disposals)
3.67 marks
2,79 tackles
.78 goals

Richard Tambling
108 games

8.38 kicks
6.48 handballs (14.86 disposals)
4.56 marks
2.90 tackles
.50 goals

I know the usual banter will be tambling is a dud etc etc but Honestly i really cant see much difference

I can.....we would've pick Lance Franklin over Tambling.

Yarran, much like someone like Cyril has achieved best on ground games by havjng 15 touches.

He's an impact player, stats don't tell his story.

Tambling was ineffective and had no impact whatsoever.

How about forward 50 entries? Goal assists?

The difference is the quality of the disposals not the number.

With no disrespect whilst his talent might have the potential, He rarely ever has an impact thats cyril like - I think 115 games is a good indication but i do believe that he still could become the player at another club but clubs take players in the draft on potential and rarely after 7 years
As far as I'm concerned, Cyril runs rings around Yazz...
Cyril gets 15 disposals and usually means he has buried the opposition
How about forward 50 entries? Goal assists?
Not sure how to find these statts but if you can post them , would be good to look at

I'm not comparing him to Cyril, I'm saying he plays a similar impact-based role.

I've seen Yarran get 15 touches and get BOG, he has just never done it consistently over his 115 game career.

He's nothing like Tambling mate. Tambling sat out on a wing, provided no run, butchered the ball and applied no pressure. Got dumped by 2 clubs.

Yarran will play another 100 games of AFL, just probably not at Carlton.

Lies, damn lies...and statistics! And this post proves that statement: Yarren might be a supporters nightmare at times...
but he's no Tambling.

If Yarran leaves next year, we will probably be bent over. It will likely be as a FA and no doubt there will be no compo.

Yarran's worse is Tampling's best...

Play him a position where he can be most damaging...Seems like HB is putting him to sleep.

Hate seeing him wasting away at HBF.

Is and always has been a HFF imo.

I swear they sit him at HB as a decoy so the opposition wastes a shutdown defender on him.
