Fairly good points about those bottom sides not having tall forwards. We'd probably have to finish bottom 2 or 3 if we are lucky to get a good tall do you think? I've heard Weitering is going pretty well as is Schache. All these bottom clubs you would think would be after the same thing. I just wonder if for example we can convince Jon Patton to leave we might have the trade power to grab him. Somehow we're going to have to pull two good tall marking forwards over the next couple of years. Doing it is the tricky thing. A lot of clubs who have have done it have done it with father son or early draft picks.
Yep, we need to go hard at the talls in this draft and the next. To be fair though, I reckon one solid key forward will be enough for a few years. Casboult is improving, and would be dynamite alongside a mobile leading forward in the mold of either of the Riewoldts, Kennedy, Cameron etc.
Hawthorn have shown that you can get away with one gun tall forward, a supporting forward/ruck, and some talented mid-size players. We've got plenty of half back types, and should be looking to convert a couple of those into mid/fwds. Am I right in recalling that Sheehan played forward back in Ireland? Maybe he could slot into the forward line for us next year?
Weitering this year, hopefully Jaksch and Fields come on before Jamo/Rowe fall away. Giles an outside chance.
Tall forward next year, plays alongside Casboult and some medium types (Everitt, Menzel, Sheehan...). Jones may have to do until this forward has a couple of pre-seasons. By the time Casboult is heading out, Ben Silvagni should be ready to go
Future talls:
Back - Weitering, Jaksch, Fields, Giles, SOSOS1
Ruck - Kreuzer, Wood, cheap rookie or traded option (Currie?)
Forward - Best tall of next years draft, Casboult, Jones, SOSOS2
If the backs work out well, Jaksch or Weitering could well move forward if they're able.
