Who's gonna take Walker when he's injury plagued, not in great form, and not exactly young anymore?

You never know, if he could get his body right, he could actually be a valuable fit for a team in (probable) contention mode for the next few years like Port.

Still can't fathom the thought of Port letting Lobbe go TBH, but if he is on the market, he should be our no 1 recruiting target (ahead of Aish)

Anyone else really concerned at the number of players we still have out of contract?
It is August and there have only been 2 re-signings this year ( Cripps and Docherty).
Off the top of my head the following are yet to be signed up, I know some will be delisted.
Kreuzer, Watson, Warnock, Rowe(?), Giles, Holman, Henderson, Armfield, Johnson, Everitt, Curnow, Byrne, White (?), Sheehan, Carrazzo and Ellard.
That is a lot of players, and as I said I know some of these wont be offered new contracts but Everitt and Curnow have played every game and I am sure would be required.

If Port are stupid enough to trade Lobbe out to fit in Dixon, I say we get on the blower to Kenny right now, offer our 2nd rounder and a sweetner like Walker for Lobbe.

Would be an horrendous list and cultural misstep by Port to sacrifice Lobbe for Dixon.

Lobbe just strikes me as a heart and Soul Port Player, would be a lot of pissed off Port players and fans if he was traded, but would love him in Navy Blue

What is a Lobbe? I know little of him...

I see he had a stack of hitouts last year and amazingly finished fourth in tackles AFL-wide last year. Holy moly. What else do I need to know?

Gives us versatility at the trade table maybe?

When he's on song, Lobbe is a top 3 ruckman in this league, he was simply amazing in Port's Final Four finish last season, astounds me that they would be prepared to let him go, surely trading Hamish Hartlett or Jackson Trengove makes more sense if they need to clear cap space (its obvious Schultz won't be back)

i've been thinking. some of our players have had the privilege of playing with 1 of the greatest modern day footballers in Chris Judd. When he arrived we were crap yet week in week out he gave everything to drag the team forward. By example he led - didnt sit back, take the money & just "go thru the motions". he was a true champion who never gave up. I'm sorry but Henderson, Yarran, & a few others, if you cant give every last drop in effort whether we're top of the ladder or not going well having seen the example set by Chris, well you know what, your not bigger than the club. Someone else will take your jumper & Carlton fans soon forget those who tried only when the going was good. Perhaps you guys should take a look at Dangerfield & how he goes about it even with the speculation of him leaving his team. Rant over.

Personally I'd look at Geelong's first rounder, another late first rounder if they can secure one for Motlop and Kersten. The Cats would love to get the Menzel boys together.

If they secure a higher first rounder for Motlop, cancel Kersten, although maybe we'd still look at him for a 3rd rounder.

Just try to get a grasp on this... do you guy want to just have picks... especially in a ordinary draft id have thought that a mix of player and picks would have been preferred.

I actually don't mind either of those players and I would be happy enough to see them in Navy Blue but I am not convinced that either are a great fit for Carlton at the moment.

Both are fringe players at Geelong and whilst they may be more than that at Carlton, even with that first pick included I don't see us giving two top 5 players for them.

Interesting comment. What type is it that you need?

I don't necessarily subscribe to the ordinary draft talk but if I did it would make more sense to have a couple of late first rounder to increase our chances of one of them turning out okay. We are not looking to flesh out our list to help out in the interim. We want players that will be there for the duration and be part of finals footy in the future. We've done the top ups with other sides fringe players. It didn't do anything for us.

Besides, if we are looking at Aish or Carlisle or any of those others we have been associated with, we can on trade those picks.

I think fans are quick to jump on talk of a poor draft year, so many of us would like to see some trades for young players. But the way SOS will go about it would likely be with draft picks...we think.

Kersten, Horlin-Smith and round 1 pick for Hendo and Menzel? (Just an idea floated on our board) Probably not enough?
Not quite, yet not bad.

I'm thinking you'll finish 8th so we'll start by having pick 11. Turn your 2nd rounder (28/29) into a pick around 17/18. Actually just give us what you get for Motlop (late first).

Package both picks up with GHS & I'll consider it...

We'd go into the draft with say 2, 11, 17 & 20. I like the look of that on our end. Plus whatever we may get for Yarran.

What's everyone's thoughts for trading Yarran and Henderson for the other teams 2nd round picks over the next two years? This years draft has been deemed weak by experts but not to say the next won't be a blinder. Could at least use a couple for other trades and f/s.

Nah. Other teams know their ceiling is high and they know they are not performing in a bad side so won't strictly offer trades based on current form. Hendo is a KPP of experience with some years left and will have some suitors. Yarran is sublimely skilled and a touch of polish to a contending side. I think we should do better than 2nd rounders.

No way are we trading Menzel.

For a start, Menzel went back to the VFL and contributed strongly. Happy to see that he has pride in performance and will fight for his spot.
