Nah. Other teams know their ceiling is high and they know they are not performing in a bad side so won't strictly offer trades based on current form. Hendo is a KPP of experience with some years left and will have some suitors. Yarran is sublimely skilled and a touch of polish to a contending side. I think we should do better than 2nd rounders.
You know I meant 4 second rd picks for those players yes

I thought you meant one pick this year and one next for both, not each.

Well in that case, for sure you wouldn't use them all this year but may use one or two for the father/son picks potentially.

However .... I would rather a first rounder each and something we can use quickly. We have so many holes to plug and so much development to do that waiting a year to get started on parts of it and still taking risks with later picks has me concerned.

Given Levi's turn around now that we have Sav on our books ... I wonder if we would back ourselves in by picking up John Butcher on the cheap?

Butcher has not come on at all and will surely not be at Port Adelaide next year with his contract set to expire at the end of this season.

He may have been a promising junior but that has not translated at a higher level so I would think we can do significantly better than a player who has been in the system for 6 years now.

Would maybe consider as an option in the rookie draft. Anything more than that, no thanks.

They got 7 wins last year (as much as us and the Bulldogs) and have had a heap of good players injured this year. I really don't think there's any grounds to give them a priority pick.

As a free agent. If the money and contract are a good size, we could get a band 1 compo which means a pick directly after our first.

It's probably been mentioned, but I think Brisbane are really looking for Band 1 compo for when the Berger departs. No priority but the same effect - and it may **** us up.

It means we'll pick Aaron Francis at 3 probably, with Schache & Weitering heading north.

You just know our draft is going to be compromised again.

yep, particularly with GC pretty shit. Must bolster that northern market.

****ers...

The only positive is the nudge, nudge under the table benefit we may get at the draft in 2016. But I lean toward the view that PPs will be scrapped just as we have an irrefutable case for one. Maybe that's a little too cynical.

Unique idea, but what would it take to get Tom Boyd out of the Dogs?

Why on earth would he leave?

He's getting paid a million bucks a season to develop in the VFL, and slot into an exciting young team on the rise as soon as he's ready. Why do players move clubs - opportunity, success, money. He'll get the opportunity with the dogs as soon as he's ready, they're much closer to success than we are, and he's being paid a sizable sum of money for the next 5 years.

Interesting thought. There are a lot of very young potentially good KPF's developing at present including Hogan, Patton, Daniher, Cameron, Moore, McCarthy, Tomlinson, Boyd, and more to come this year in Schache, etc. The idea of nabbing one is good.

I think Boyd is unlikely, but GWS has too many to play in one team, so lack of game opportunity may mean they are tradable this year or next year.

We have desperate needs up front and down back, but should not waste pick 2-3 unless it delivers exactly what we want ( a star KPP).

If we cannot get a KPF this year then we need to find stop gaps at a low cost to fill the void (like Watson, Foster, Casboult, possibly Butcher, etc.). But pick 2-3 must be used for some real quality to add to the mix. Another top midfielder like Cripps would be awesome.

You just know our draft is going to be compromised again.

Would it be inconceivable that Brisbane would forego their top pick and trade to GCS for Dixon and their end of first round priority pick?
Plenty of developing defenders, Schache would take at least 2 years to give a decent return up forward. They also need points to "pay" to match bids for gun mid prospect Keays, and mooted first round KPP Hipwood, who kicked 3 for their seconds in the NEAFL at the weekend.
