Seeing how good Cripps is makes me think how important true stars are

Arguably we've not had many for a long time, almost the point we've forgotten how good they are

If Weitering is THAT good then I'm all for tanking to get him

Yep, Weitering is too good of an elite young KPP talent that we can't afford to quite possibly sacrifice our chances to get him if we get a meaningless dead rubber win on the weekend...

I hope we end up with picks 2, 10-12 (for Hendo), 15-17 (yarran to Tigers) and our second rounder pick 22-24.
With those picks I hope we pick up Weitering, Mckay Curnow or Collins. Its likely that Mckay and Curnow will be gone so I'd actually take Collins. The reason being that if we can address FB and CHB in the one draft then they should hopefully develop and peak at the same time. It also means that we can put all our focus on Tall fwds in the proceeding drafts. I would on trade our pick 15-17 to GWS for Rory Lobb or use it to select Weideman if he is there. One of the two. Pick 22-24 I'm not too sure. All I can say is that I hope we can keep it instead of trading it to Brisbane for Aish. Hopefully force Aish into the PSD.

So we get:
Weitering, Collins, Lobb Pick 22 and Aish.
I'd be pretty happy with that off season. What do we reckon guys ?

So we go into 2016 with one ruckman (Kreuzer) and a bloke who's never played the game as a Cat B rookie for back-up? Wood stays for me.

Fringe players are what we should target as cheap top-ups. As long as we don't repeat the Jones mistake of signing them up for 3 years on decent coin, they fill a need and don't set us back much. We don't need to fill the list with them, but turning over one or two a year until the team is settled means we've always got blokes fighting for spots in the seniors. That breeds a competitive culture and ensures the blokes in the ones are on top of their game instead of coasting.

I also think we need to accept that at least one of Yarran/Henderson will go. Yarran we can cover, maybe not with his immense talent, but with quality running players like Buckley, Byrne, Tuohy, Boekhorst etc. Hendo's tougher, and I still hold a glimmer of hope that we can convince him to stay if we get a good prospective coach and shift him back into defense.
Wood is burnt toast. What did we do before Wood? That's right, play Warnock. Seeing as Warnock won't be around we add another perspective ruckman alongside the American on our rookie list. We initially got him as a delisted free agent so pretty sure we can find others.

Cheap top ups! How have most of our new mature recruits gone for us this year? Jones, Tutt, Dick have all been shocking pick ups for us and no player moves to a new club under a one year deal. Our VFL team is a disgrace and can only be fixed by adding top end talent. Who are the best VFL teams atm? The Bulldogs won the trophy last year and their AFL squad finished 14th... Another year in and they are sitting at 4th spot. Look at how Box Hill has been good for so long. 2009 the bullants made it to a grand final and where did our 1sts finish that year?

Your final paragraph I agree with.

My updated plan.

Yarran to Adelaide for pick 10
Pick 20 for Aish
Carlisle in PSD
Lamb for pick 57
Weitering @ 2, Midfielder @ 10, Rice and SOS

Keep Hendo

Tuohy, Jamison, Weitering
Docherty, Carlisle, Simpson
Aish, Gibbs, Murphy
Lamb, Henderson, Thomas
Everitt, Casboult, Menzel
Kreuzer, Cripps, Graham
Holman, Buckley, Curnow, Boekhorst

Bell, Byrne, Sheehan

Midfield depth would still need work.

Don't want Carlisle, he can play but I just hope we invest in the draft which probably rules us out of the Carlisle race

He'd come at a cost but it's in the PSD, our draft position isn't compromised. We also desperately need good talls.

If he gets banned we don't have to pay him and we will have a KPP at ready to go at some stage. Port and Dogs took the bet too.

My updated plan.

Yarran to Adelaide for pick 10
Pick 20 for Aish
Carlisle in PSD
Lamb for pick 57
Weitering @ 2, Midfielder @ 10, Rice and SOS

Tuohy, Jamison, Weitering

Everitt, Casboult, Menzel

If Brisbane are entertaining the idea of getting a priority pick, or a Frawley style pick for the 'Berger', there is no way they are winning the game on Saturday night. They most likely have visions of drafting both Schache & Weitering (along with their academy picks Keays & Hipwood).

I would burn down city hall

I'll cop that James. I had planned not to use it as I agree with the definition you posted there. Most people use it incorrectly and after years of fighting I have just about joined the 'if you can't beat em' camp.

Also, if I could be F'd, I'm sure I'd find a definition that supports the use of the word in cases of mockery. Or some such stuff. (probably not)
Seemingly mocked by fate is another interpretation.

Nice post zee but a few comments if I may:

- can't see Crows trading away their first after having a few seasons without one
- with our renewed focus on the draft I can't see us trading away any picks under 25 unless another came the other way
- regardless of rumours, I really hope we don't trade Carlisle. Keep Hendo as you suggest and play him down back with Weitering from 2016
- Lamb for 57 sounds about right

My suggestions:

- Yarran and a later pick to Sydney for their first (pending trade regulations) ~ 15
- Play hardball on Aish threatening the PSD (if we can even do that with a pick after them) - otherwise straight swap for Bell as mooted
- Lamb for late pick ~ 56
- 15 and 20 for Essendon's first (4) and third (~40)
- Weitering @ 2, Parish/Francis @ 4, Rice and GSOS1 for 38 and l/over from 40 with points system, Bradley with 5th (74)

IN: Aish, Weitering, Parish/Francis, Rice, GSOS1 and Bradley
OUT: Yarran, cloggers

2015 Round 1 Starting Lineup (similar to yours zee)

Tuohy, Weitering, Jamison
Simpson, Henderson, Buckley
Docherty, Gibbs, Aish
Thomas, Casboult, Menzel
Everitt, Jaksch, Walker
Kreuzer, Cripps, Murphy
Curnow, Graham, Lamb, Boekhorst
